Nowt to add. Just a bit of moral support! Hope its a simpleish fix! Engine out but hopefully in the garage or the drive at your leisure rather than a break down miles from home!
Got no option but to risk it , only a 130 mile trip there and no plans to move once there , I’ll take my time and keep fingers crossed and fix it when I get back
Fingers crossed here too! Be just like waiting for a lammy to break. You know its gonna happen ....but when?
Said the same to the missus tonight , only difference is there’s 3 of us affected if we break down nowadays
That will be have been cracked by somebody bashing it while building the engine or throwing cases around with studs attached and straightening it again. Or its a bad boy who end for ended a rusty stud like I did on my engine build ( bits of which have now re entered the recon engine food chain) .. Are you sure you cant get the stump out with the engine in place , and wind in a new stud. .. try seeing if it will tap round with a punch . Its either coming out easily with the cylinder in place or at the other extreme you may be ending sending a stripped down case to a machine shop to have it drilled out. Try a quick prod, if it fails you will be seriously stripping down the engine anyway. Myself I would try to find time to sort it before going any kind of distance. Leaving it wont stop the bus but you may end up needing a new cylinder head too..
It’s not going to punch round mike - it’s snapped off almost concave into the casing . I think it’s engine out time , head and barrel off and try a stud extractor first
Or if you have a Mig welder to hand.. carefully blob weld onto the bit of stud that's left until you have enough blob to get moleys on...or weld a nut to the weld blob. Works for me.
Thats bad. But try the blob of weld trick. Still might get a grip on it without all the stripping down. Anyway, cant you just gaffer tape it like in the movies ?
Is it snapped off at the case end? Looked like a short section in the head from your pic. I wouldn't use a screw extractor, as if the stud's stuck, the extractor's 100% certain snap off.
I've recently removed the studs from my case as part of the rebuild I'm doing. The studs should have some sealant on the threads. Judicious application of heat from a blowtorch was enough to soften the sealant and made the extraction much easier
Golly didn’t see pic when I looked ,sa bit tight init , can ya nay move away a bit or you might get birdspoo or drips if it rains ? Glad you got there ok , that’s a big pheeew off ya mind anyway . Have a great time mate
I parked up and thought the same , tried to start her up and the starter had jammed like it’s prone to do after a run so I thought sod it
