was it a size 10 or a size 9 you used to bend it ;D

  7. Size 9 diddy... ;D I found it quite east to bend with my hands to make a uniform shape... 8)

just think if you can fabricate a zinc bus ,it would last forever.. ;D

  10. I knew that metal didn't look right. I just found this on eHow:
"Zinc metal parts are generally galvanized to prevent rust and oxidation and help them hold up over long periods of time. Unfortunately, this makes them slick, causing resistance to paint adhesion. You can't just slap a coat of primer and paint on zinc or you will end up with chipping and peeling over time. If you want to paint zinc metal parts, you need to know the proper preparation techniques or you will end up with a finish that won't hold up."
It requires a special zinc primer and paint.
That little home fabrication ultimately may not be the bargain you think it is.

  11. oh dear ,maybe I still have time to weld it back together and use it once again as god intended, a good old water dispersal system... ;D

  12. You can use a mordant solution prior to painting to allow the paint to adhere

Its what the landrover guys do prior to painting a galvanised chassis

I hear you ask why someone would need to paint a glavanised chassis?

Its to hide the fact its galvanised because they attract the attention of thieves due to the value and ease of selling on

  13. arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggg

now you tell me !!!! just welded it back together...

ah well ,going back out to chop it again...

  14. Whenever I see the name lost-en-france comes up, that Bonnie Tyler song just starts going off in my head!

  15. Hi, nice to see you haven't lost your artistic flair.

I use galvanised sheet quite often for patching or making panels. If you spray it with 'metal ready' it etches the surface enough for paint to stick.

MIck, I remember you painting the whole front end of a bus in por-15 years ago, what ever happened to that?

  16. No idea... ;D

Well it is confession time I am afraid... :-[

Last Saturday, I sold the resto....I felt I did not have enough hours in the day, my enthusiam was down to nil partly because my late late bay took a year and a half to register in France and that is lhd ,I thought it might be a nightmare to register the westy...

regrets no ,some of my buses I definaltly regretted selling but not this one ,when I first purchased it I was very excited partly because I was still finding it hard to get work in France , it was a distraction...

So the new owner turned up with a small trailer [only in France] I had to get my angle grinder and chop the front of the trailer off and bolt the rear wheels to the rear tailgate...Hope he does`nt break hard on the way home.. ;D

will I get another ?,I dunno ,if I do it will be French ....

another chapter to Henry and the others...

if it had to go it had to go though :)

.........hope you get another one ;D
