  1. Hello,

Just signed up as a new member having just bought a 1975 Bay Dormobile conversion with twin sliding doors. Never owned VWs before but my partner and I have talked for years about having one. After a recent trip to California where we hired and RV, which we loved, we have taken the plunge and bought one.

Couple of pics below; it's in need of a total restoration, which it will be getting. At the shotblasters as we speak. If anyone has any useful tips or information on campers of this era or spec please speak up as we are both eager to learn.

I'm led to believe the twin sliding door models are pretty rare, and would be interested to know if anybody has any tips for still having 'some' cabinets in the interior but with the option of still using the second door.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jonny

    Welcome.
I hope it's not really being shot blasted? It'll come out looking like it's rolled off a cliff!

  9. Guess i'll find out next week.

    £550 for the whole thing.

  10. If they do cars then it will probably turn out ok, if they don't and are used to doing truck chassis it may have a few extra ripples in it, get some form of primer on it asap or it will just rust at the first sign of damp.

Welcome from Cheshire, was it really a Dormobile or just a twin slider that someone has added a pop top to?

Welcome from a fellow twin slider owner...interior options ....mm mm....very limited really, we've got the sink and hob at the side of the RnR bed and a cheaply knocked up rear facing bench seat across the 'non walkthrough' bulkhead that has a hinged seat base to allow for storage, its not great really as you have to take the seat cushion off to lift it completely and 9 times out of 10 we have 'stuff' on top of the seat making it awkward so I'm having a rethink this winter myself possibly losing the rear facing seat and building a full width cupboard and drawers.
I've also toyed with the idea of going across one of the sliders but its a lot of work as I would have to move the bed across and move the hob and sink...
    Good luck with it..

You need like a hostess trolley on wheels so you can move it round depending which door you're opening :D
