The government has closed some retail and leisure businesses.

It’s also told everyone to work remotely when they can.

Key workers have provision for schooling for their kids.

Past that, currently, it’s try to stay physically apart and business as usual.

  2. This was for my own business, the one instruction will make no difference to whether I keep that going, so I can ignore. The message was clear avoid all non essential travel. I have one or two dilemmas, the camper is supposed to go for insurance work next week, I would have to go 10 miles up the road, I dont want to borrow a car when I dont know who has been in it before. And in my mind it's not essential, plus I might need it if the car stops working and I need to help in food retail, from what I have heard that sounds likely.

BMW have been told they're closed from 18:00 this evening.
I just called them to sack off a booking I had for tomorrow, and they told me they're in the middle of calling everyone to cancel anyway.

  4. My problem has gone away the body repair guy a small business is shutting down, he doesn't see his services as essential.

My Landrover was going in today for some work. They phoned me yesterday to say I could just park it up outside and they’d sort it, then today they’re shut, which is fair enough. It thinks it’s running out of adblue, even though it isn’t. £180 for a diagnostic test. Still, can’t go anywhere anyway.

    Why are they shutting?

Garages are on the list of essential businesses!

For the safety of their staff and customers is what they say.

Can’t argue with that, though if this drags on they’ll lose a fair bit of business.

I have found them really quite rotten inside .

  10. There was a ice cream van touring around streets in Benfleet Essex and have heard Southend Seafront/Beach packed again today.

I am a computer programmer for a large chain of car dealerships. They have all been shut - showrooms and service centres. I am still working from home.

Hopefully we'll just be able to press the pause button, and survive on government handouts until someone hits play again

Trouble is if you loook at how this goes on we lock down until cases fall. Then relax. Then lock down again each time so NHS can cope. This cycles on a d off for a year maybe... then maybe it fizzles out when most of us have caught the virus.
At the end of it the economy is wrecked.

I’m hoping all the modelling they are doing will help.

We need hard data from testing, not anecdotal ‘I survived but was never tested’.

I’m wondering if the AI modelling they are planning on 111 lines could be overlaid with people phone data, if they have one.

You could really do serious historical modelling that way....and kill a few civil liberties.

The other thing to remember is each day we should be building more ventilators, more care access etc.

Regarding ventilators, all they’re doing is sending out a URS to manufacturers. No-one is going to touch designing them, we just want to manufacture them. We need models, drawings and vector files!

  16. It'll cost five times more than a standard ventilator, but your lungs will be the cleanest they've ever been.
