What we all need is a boxing glove on the end of a 2m pole to deal with such interruptions.

  5. Nah / I’m a bit dispondant now. I thought non essential would’ve looked to restrict people passing the virus between themselves and therefore families to the greatest extent that can be exercised - like if you were trying to control a health emergency that has shown to kill many many people in some of our close neighbouring countries.

    this is a rubbish game

  6. This is flawed as they came round before the lockdown legislation was brought in, you’ve not thought this through Norris

  8. building site in our lane is still operational, although they have reduced staff and they are all outdoors and >2m distancing.

the project my wife is involved with though are all stopping today - they have all been instructed to go on site only to make safe and lock down, nothing else.

  9. The building merchants are closed from today anyway so that's going slow work down.
I think we are about to find out who the employers are that have a moral compass pointing roughly in the right direction.
Bin men (recycling) have been but I missed a photo op.

One mans moral compass is another’s avoidance of litigation.

McDonalds have closed the drive throughs as they are placing their staff in danger and could be sued should one fall ill.

It’s good they’ve done it, don’t misunderstand me, but if it was pure morals they’d have done it earlier just as they’ve been made to in Spain and Italy.

You get nil points if you turn the water back on and wash those hands when the job is complete.

And don’t nick their bog roll.

  15. ive left a bathroom half tiled, first world problem. however having no shower and there for no means of washing is essential so carry on jivedubbin. but going and starting a new bathroom re-fit would be classed as non essential IMO

Government are looking after TAX PAYERS as a priority. It's well known the PAYE peeps pay an unduly unfair amount of tax compared to self employed and ltd co type one man bands. They are important and cherished.

But... it's terribly short sighted and will not save a lot of businesses. Here's the scenario...

Many companies, most companies, have far more costs than wages and will go bust anyway, at which point their employees will be unemployed and entitled only to benefits, so 80% ? Good luck with that for more than a couple of weeks. If this is you, be as ready you can, full frugal mode looks sensible.

My bro is a partner/architect. They have work but appreciate that wringing the money from their clients is about to become very tricky if not impossible as every business is in the same position. So what to do?

Keep working on projects for companies that are likely to go bust and not pay their bills leading to the inevitable?

Keep company going taking the 80% by sending everyone home and meeting the other costs for as long as they can?

Throw in the towel and condemn their staff to unemployment?

They're mulling it over, they don't want to poop on the staff, but may have to eventually when the money is all gone. Selfishly, they may as well give up, share out any loose cash and go home depressed. At least they wouldn't spend their last cash on rent, business rates etc etc which doesn't help anyone directly connected.

And that my friends is a company that CAN operate from home, they are all home working, but for how long?

  18. I'm about to go and sit a home for the duration ,being self employed means ,no income ,sure there's talk of making access to benefit for self employed easier..I'm just glad I don't owe on a mortgage or credit cards

  20. I received an email this morning asking if I would quote a fee for an inspection etc. There was also an implication that I might be ignoring the government directive and was carrying on regardless. There's still many out there in denial.
