@burnzdog it looks like you have a tidy bus... but you have no thermostat or flaps by the looks of it, thb ... you need to pull your engine out and get it on a bench..... and sort out the tinware and cooling flap issues, on the bright side its relatively easy and not expensive..new engines are, if you do this you will learn almost everything about these engines, and will be set for years of good experiences @Top Banana Racing ...you are a star mate... weird but a 24 ''carrot'' star....
Yep, it'll work fine without, just won't warm up as quickly, which would cause engine wear over long periods. The peril is with folk who do have them fitted, but for some reason the flaps don't open fully, which means the heads don't get cooled properly. Your hotness may be caused by the oil cooler exhaust venting into the engine compartment due to missing tin: the hot air will get sucked straight back into the fan again. It should be vented out through a small duct to the outside world. As above, worth taking the engine out - no great hassle - and checking the the tin and ancillaries, as above. You've got a tidy-looking van and motor - it'll soon be sorted

It could be possible but its far easier to remove the engine Dont worry its not like a normal car that needs an engine hoist You can drop the engine using a trolly jack and a sheet of plywood You drop the engine then lift the bus up and pull the engine out from underneath
Nope - engine out, I'm afraid. Then you can have a good look around for anything else that's missing.
I've got an engine trolley you can borrow but I'll need it back in August. It really is an hour or so's work to drop it out, less on yours as the bars not there!
You can install it without removing the engine. Bottom bit in first - one bolt into the fan housing. Top bit plugs into bottom bit, again one bolt into the housing Both bolts short M6, I'd go for hex head, they'll be easier to do up.
I have fitted it without removing the engine. Bit tricky and took time but got there in the end. I loosened the main tinware bolts at either end of the fan housing (the ones near the carbs) to allow the housing to rock and give me more space.
Hi all, So just an update. Managed to get the doghouse exhaust tin in without having to remove the engine. Was a little awkward but It in OK. Took her for a run earlier and sat around 55-60 stopping every now and again for a quick temperature check and she seemed to be fine. I have a temp VDO coming tomorrow, so will try and get that in asap for a better reading. It does still struggle to start when Its warm though. What could be the reason for this?
Chaps I need more help. Took the bus out this evening onto the motorway for a straight run. Fitted a temp gauge in to keep an eye on temp. I was pushing her to do 60 and within 4-5 miles she climbed to 130 and then eventually 140- and i stopped and she climbed further. I was hoping the installation of the doghouse exhaust tin would sort out the over heating issue but its still there. Is 60 just too much? or is there something else missing possibly? What temperature should it be sat at safely?
