I was reminded the JK Preservation Parts engines are built by the VW Engine Company. The spec seems to be slightly different to their standard new engine range, more stainless steel parts , price is higher but this is also because the £2600 quoted on the JK website basically includes core charge, so you do not need to exchange anything, although you will get paid for a core returned. The £1995 quoted by the VW Engine Company in the magazines is after a core has been returned.
I picked up an engine from marketplace for £100 full turnkey which had knackered main bearing. If I cant get it rebuilt I am still quids in. Heads alone are £40 each px. I am sure there is somewhere near Hinckley that rebuilds Vws. last engine I had built was Rob Parry who used to be on here...... still going strong just building another as want to use original in bug. Had brief conversation with Rob early part of the year but not heard back from him since !!
