New Dynamo?? how easy is it?

  1. hi hmmm your engine looks like ours our dynamo has gone and the pulley system had gone we've had new gsf ones put on but they don't line up straight with another bit we've got to get an original dynamo and have the engine out. Alex is sitting on the drive waiting while we tut at him.
bek - that's as technical as i get basically it's flippin anoying.

  2. If the dynamo has given up the ghost, you might want to consider swapping it for an alternator whilst its out - better charging at lower revs. I did mine with the engine in - but its a bit fiddly getting so some of the nuts and bolts - From memory you need to undo the bolts/screws on either side of the fan housing and lift this up to get clearance to reach to bottom 2 bolts holding the fan in the housing. I also took off the carb to give more working room. Once out, the bolt on the back of the fan/dynamo is bloomin tight to move! Mt fan was also knackered from rubbing - so you need to make sure you shim it correctly as the clearances are not big in the fan housing.
It's doable with the engine in, but it probably wouldn't be much longer job to drop the engine.

  3. All sorted! Dropping the van off to Kingfisher Kustoms tomorrow to have the dynamo taken out and a new alternator fitted. At least it will get us to vanfest??!!

  4. Xcelent! Really need an alternator in a camper.
Now how about a nice voltage sensing split charge relay and the biggest battery you can get in the left there O0

  5. All sorted thanks to Dave Fisher at Kingfisher Kustoms!!

The bus had a Beetle Dynamo fitted which is shorter that a bus dynamo causing the position of the belt to be tilted, being a 30amp beetle dynamo it had cooked the dynamo!!

Thank you everybody for your help!!

    Dave :)
