Needs a bit of a tidy up

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by dookie, Nov 3, 2019.

  1. Just been under the van and noticed that it needs a bit of something but I don't know what. It's not rust but it's not great. I have hopefully attached a picture. Is there anything that someone with basic skills cab do to improve it?

    Thanks

  2. That’s just a bit of surface rust on the track rods. Forget about it.

You could clean with a wire brush...

  4. So just wire brush and leave or spray with a bit of wd40?

  5. Just leave it.

Your heater duct appears to have a bandage on it...

  6. There's gaffa tape under that as well. Don't know why I have to wear ski gloves and a hat when I drive the van

  7. Don’t worry! There’s no set attire for driving these buses

ALthough it will look filthy, wire brush it the surface rust without damaging the rubber bellows then brush on warmed up runny Waxoyl or engine oil. This beats WD40 because it doesnt wash off so easily.
With anything more like paint, unless you get rid of 100% of rust underneath it, the paint starts acting as a seal to keep any moisture in and spread the rust faster. The oil based products if warm enough will soak into the rust and stop water getting in the holes.
