  1. Hi zed
Have welded outer skin on today and tack welded inner skin on. Bottom bracket fits well on the sliding door so that's a start! Now to complete welding of inner sill onto bus then tack weld middle sill on and see where we are! Fingers crossed in a good place but we shall see!! Lol

  2. Here are a couple of piccies of the door today.

  7. Good morning everybody what a great day!

  8. Hi guys
Have managed to tack weld middle sill on and fit sliding door! Will post some piccies tomorrow. Have left laptop in work!
The back edge of the sliding door from the point of the new outer skin is approx 5 mm to far out! I could fill the rear panel out to it but would prefer to bend the door in! Any ideas? Any help or suggestions much appreciated
    Thanks
    Andy

That would depend on whether the top is 5mm too far in as well.;)
They can get twisted when repaired so two opposite corners are in and the other two out. If that's happened I suggest violence to bend the top "out" corner "in". This way you will end up with all 4 corners equally "in" if you see what I mean.

Disclaimer: Although I might well do this, I haven't done this - but I could. I also haven't seen your bus and I'm guessing. It's up to you to judge whether the door will adjust satisfactorily after such radical action (before the action).

Actually 5mm isn't much - I advise you fit a seal and see what happens - they are a bit bendy and it might pull in to the right shape.

  10. Thanks Zed appreciate the thoughts and disclaimer!! I will try and post some photo's today but essentially really pleased with it, fits well on vertical and top horizontal, rear lower edge sits approx 5 to 10 mm proud from the repair down and the front very bottom just touches when fully closed so my thoughts where to attempt to bend the rear in slightly and the front very bottom edge out slightly.

I was thinking laying on floor and using lengths of wood to support where I want then plank on top and standing on it!! Cant think how else to do it really. Obviously initially just stepping on and see if my little fat bod is heavy enough!! Before I jump all over it, but as long as I only support by 5mm then in theory it shouldnt bend more that that!? I think lol

thanks again for advice it is reasurring that I was thinking along similar lines, will post pre and post photo's once attempted!

    cheers
    Andy

  11. Like zed said, is it the whole door twisted?

is the top of the door on that side flush? if its in too far at the top you might get away with adjusting the door ?

  12. Hi diddymen's
I haven't put the door catch back on yet so will do that on weekend then take photos but essentially the door appears to fit correctly all the way round except from the repair down! Even that fits quite well just needs to come out by 5 mm on the bottom at the front and needs to go in by 5 or 10 mm at the back! I was thinking I just need to bend it a bit but wanted to check there wasn't another obvious way to address it!
Thanks for your input and advice
    Cheers Andy

It's too curly you mean.

Get a straight edge vertically against the door a roll it along the curve at several points along the door. Do the same down a good bit - B pillar? to see how it should be - you'll soon see where it's gone wrong, then you can decide what to do. If something sticks out to far drastic action may be called for. Get it right from the top down - don't start at the bottom. You (not just you ;) ) will end up with filler up to the swage so strip the paint off now. Generalisations I know, but I'd just be guessing from here. You'll get there - a RHD import is £5-600 and will need work.

  15. sounds like a dumb assed statement, and i'm not a welder, but is it not possible to buy a LHD/Right opening door new, hack the bottom off below the window and weld it to the top of a RHD/left opening door? I thought the new sliders were quite cheap?
    :)

  17. Thank feck for that then

Ill buy a rot free replacement as it will save me loads of time and hassle

  18. Sorry I havent posted photos yet but I havent put door catch back on yet so the door wont stay closed without me holding it and when I hold it I cant take a bloody photo!!

The front of the door below the repair is to far in and the rear of the door below the repair is to far out! Niether are major and the actual shape of the door appears to be pretty good. I cut about 40 small holes along the edge of the repair and swaged the existing skin in behind the new panel on the outer skin. I then spot welded 4 welds at a time across the width of the door, let it cool then did another 4 so I dont think the door has twisted but I could be wrong.

Promise I will post photos this weekend once door catch is on then may try minor bending operation!!

As always thanks for all input and advice! Always gratefully accepted!

    Cheers

    Andy

So all fits really well other than slightly to far in at front and a bit more out at the rear. This is without rubber seal in place!

So took the door off placed some wood strategically and then jumped on the door!
These are the results again without door seal
