My oil smells of petrol, i park on a slope front end pointing up, now i know this shouldn't cause it but petrol does seem to be getting into oil I've got newish solex cb perfomance carbs a facet elec pump and a cheapy fuel regulator, but i dont know where on the carbs petrol may come out of with the engine off? and where/how its finding its way into the block? Any ideas greatfully received! Thanks in advance Dave.
dioframe in your pump is burst so petrol running straight in the en=gine down to the oil had this happen to me beetle parked om me drive slope filled the engine with petrol changed the pump cured owen nw
If there is a split in a hose or a failing gasket on or around the carb then it could possibly allow what's left in the pipes to drain into your system. I would check all that first.
The only thing in your fuel circuit stopping the fuel pouring through the carbs into the engine are the float valves in the carbs. I'd see if there's a bit of muck stuck in one.
Thanks bOdyrOck, all new pipes and gaskets around the carb, Zed, That indeed sounds like the place to start, in fact there is a little brass hole half way down the venturi that on one carb seems to stay wet and on other no so, So i think thats the carb to check 1st! Para, your a genius! zedlol
Its also a thin line between love and hate so i hear, and oddly i always hear it in my own head but in voice of chrissie hynde! its just plain weird
is the oil level getting higher ? if it is fuel then i`d change it for fresh asap . I`m sure i`ve read a post where petrol will syphon through the pump and reg if parked on a slope ,do what zed says and check the float valves , not sure if you can get anti syphon valves ??????
Took the top off the carb and the float seems to be cutting out the intake of fuel, So, is it possible that if the carbs throttle was set to far open that gravity could let fuel gravity feed from the tank straight down into the inlet manifold?
