That's going to look very nice. Got to strike a balance between beauty and practicality in all things :)

  6. got me paranoid now. Won't they be any good? K+N market them as being the best. I've got the oil to soak them in and everything - that stuff cost me a freaking fortune

I have no idea how good they are - don't take any notice of me

  8. As long as your cool zone is sealed and cool they will be fine dude

  9. Oh go sparing with the filter oil or it all ends up gumming up the carb

That K & N looks great, it'll work a treat..I had an old Talbot Sunbeam with twin webers on with K & N's, they where great!

  12. Is a reflection of a wooden vw badge i think

  13. Looks like it, but shouldn't we be able to see the real badge in the photo?
I don't know why this is driving me yompy. I feel like a cat chasing a laser pointer.

  16. They won't work for your engine.

So next time you are in Bridgwater I will look after them for you and keep them warm in my engine bay. O0

  17. I once had a New Beetle and was always looking for cheap easy ways to give it a bit more oomph. As I was standing in an auto parts store with the proper K&N air filter in my hand, reading all the claims of substantially increased performance, a serious question came to mind.
If a filter of this sort is really so much better, why then would the brilliant engineers at Volkswagen not use a similar design? It certainly isn't any sort of mysterious, complicated, secret technology reverse engineered from U.F.O. wreckage.
Even with K&N's patents, they could have legally made something that was at least similar.
    What gives?
    Anyone?

Not to spoil your day Joker but what I was lead to believe was that any of these after market air filters increase the amount of air into the engine. If the air is increased then it alters the air/fuel ratio making it run leaner. What you may find is that you need to adjust or re-jet your carbs to compensate.

I once fitted a K&N filter to the little 104. Ran like a bag of old nails when fitted close to the carb because of the above when running on the freeway. Moved to where the original was and out of direct air ram and it ran better. However your set up is far from original so it may well work ok.

Forgetting the above, they do look a bit bling :)
