My Crew-cab restoration 'Crewie'

  1. are you chopping the bulkhead out? ;)
I'l like to do something with a flip flop bench for the front and have a bed in there. bit cosy but could work

  2. Nope, leaving the seats as 3/2:1 although it is very easy to remove all the rear seats and probably sleep on the floor that way.

The plan is to get it to a nice usable state. Use it for a bit and then plan the next stage.

I also need to treat the load bed and gates.

  3. Nice build this, looking well

  4. I shuddered when you said about the gates! I used 3 rolls of welding wire on mine. Solid now but an endless job lol

  5. Sorry about zero updates. Bernard's previous interior job turned into a real time eater. I should have the crew back in a couple of weeks.
When removing the screen for the headlining there was a lot of rust under the screen.
So that is going to be treated and done in a year or so with phase two (which was mean to be just the gates, although I expected the front would need work!).
With the sun out I really miss the the Crewie!
So excited about the new interior too. Been a dream since a kid to have those Bernard Newbury logos.

  7. So here is the finished interior.
Can't wait to drive it, although i wonder if I'll decide to sell it at some point. Having two buses will probably be busy!

  8. Well I had a great drive back home from Leigh on Sea last night. Only a few things to solve now:
    - Can't select 2 gear when changing down - must be the linkage?
    - Fuel tank is showing 3/4 full the whole time
    - When I got home, my van wouldn't restart until I had waited about 15 mins. Turned the key and nothing (no starter turn or anything)?

Any thoughts on 1 or 3? I'm assuming the sender for the fuel tank may be stuck or something.

  9. Smart!

  10. Leigh on sea is my old neck of the woods.
regarding the fuel level, it's most likely the sender. the float lever wears away the copper windings on the actual sender unit, in the end mine read 3/4 full or nothing. luckily they are easy to get to under the back seats :)

  11. p.s. the starter solenoid is probably on its way out or the contacts are pretty corroded. whip the starter off and clean. also worth taking the solenoid off the starter and giving that a bit of a clean up and copper greasing the plunger.

  12. cool very cool

  13. Thanks for the bits of advice. I need to just enjoy using the crew-cab for now and slowly iron out these little niggles. As I solve one, I know that others will pop up! That's dub life.

  14. [IMG]So I'm thinking of selling this puppy. I love it, but two buses is too much. I'm going to scope out values. I'm only the second owner. One of the last Bernard Newbury interiors done by Bernie himself.

  15. The crew cab on the right...not the camper!!

  16. Can anyone help me come up with a price? Spec:
All welding done except drop gates and some needed on the front at some point.
Bodywork is welded and painted for commercial look (!) no filler
    Lowered with link pin beam
    New tyres
    Weber 40's
    New retrimmed Bernard Newbury interior
    RHD
I'm only the second owner and have lots of original paperwork

Send me a PM if you can help with pricing?
