Not broken just quite thin in places so had a bit of flex. The guy doing it wanted it done so we did it! Will give plenty of fixing places for the ply too. That was by far the worst bit of roof so I was well pleased!
I think you've lucked into a very good garage there Doug, I wish they were a bit nearer to me. Be careful that you don't add too much weight to the top, it's only got three springs.
Yep, we thought of that. The 4 spars add a few kg but the springs were always plenty hefty enough so should be fine! (Hopefully....) They are good; the guy doing the work is properly OCD (by his own admission) and the boss is a task master! A winning combination really.
I always wonder how much roof corrosion it caused by condensation running on the inside and into the seams - I suspect a few go there from the inside rather than the outside...
Coming on well. The roof cap has been shaped and should be in primer this evening, then its paint all parts of the roof and re-assemble. Getting there!
We didn't have a cab headliner in our van for over a year. After a nights camping in the winter the whole of the metal underside of the cab roof was running with condensation. So much that it dripped onto your head while you were bouncing over the grass on your way out the campsite.
bloody hell, an RS1800 - you don't see many of them around! There was a guy around the Matlock/Bakewell area who had two, one was tucked up in a purpose built garage, having done very low mileage (we're talking early hundreds) and the other was his daily driver! Ive not seen the daily for a few years now
That one was re-shelled by Ford in the early 80s due to quite significant accident damage. They used a standard escort shell so there are various oddities about it! The engine has just been re-built so they're sorting the engine bay ready to bung it in. Lovely looking motor. The '37 Ford is off on Friday morning for a full mechanical overhaul before the owner drives it for the first time! The pin-striper was in this morning finishing off the boot lid.
It's probably a rugby thing (the game not the place), flimsy easy to lift roofs just wouldn't have the same challenge
There's a metal frame that fixes around the edge of the cut-out that's not there at the moment. Once it's on it holds the roof square. Without it it's quite wibbly wobbly!
