  1. sounds great mate, I need to get out in this beast but got a family say to st ives sat prepped, and a second birthday bbq on the sunday!

  2. Havent posted in here for a long time!
Things have progressed a bit, but ill try and pick up where I left off!
Got some good use out of the camper last year, on day trips mainly, but this year I wish to camp out a lot more :)

  3. Pulled him out after a winter rest, with my little helper

Found out I have a leak somewhere, suspect is the rear side window seal, this is where it collects in this internal gutter thing

Ruined some of the interior, and the rear flooring so that needs to be remade.

Next a bit of shopping, these out which was a pain in the ass as the runners didn't want to move!

These to go in (MGF). Drilled the spot welds and cut out the old runners which has left some holes to weld up :)

  6. Not updated again for a while!
It's now nearing the end of March and Norman is in the body shop for his respray and colour change.
It would seem the previous owners poor attempt at painting this bus has cost me again, and they are having to pretty much bare metal the whole van exterior to lay the new paint down due to micro blisters.
Found some interesting previous repairs, most seem to just have rust stopper and filler wedged in.
Found some small holes which would explain the water getting in, so these will be sorted.
The doors are getting a rebuild due to rusting 1/4 light frames and the chrome scrapers etc all being in poor condition.
This should hopefully all be worth it though and when he's back together I can at last polish him as he will have nice shiney paint not the Matt dulux effect that was going on!

Just now amassing parts, rebuilding and refurbing the bits that have been removed for the respray.

    Pictures will follow

  11. Hopefully body will be finnished this week with the bottom half painted stone blue.
I will then start with reassembly whilst the doors and poptop are painted.

I have had all the seals off the glass which are nearly new, and scrubbed them, scrubbed the glass and run a blade across them to get the crap off.

Also refurbed all of the door locks and other bits removed for the repray, which will be a lot nicer to put back on with fress nuts and bolts :)

  13. Wow! How do you know how to DO all this?! My Fellows has burned on black marks from the last owner: no idea how to sparkle the chrome back up again. Oven cleaner only made a small dent.
It's looking fab - can't wait for the next shots.

  14. Easy! Stripped it down, chucked it all in the dishwasher, cleaned it up, chrome top cleaned with Brillo pad with the soap in it, then a bit of elbow grease with some autosol, then all the bits I removed i rubbed down and repainted!

  15. Bus in ready for the bottom coat now so should be painted Monday, all masked up and in the booth!!

  17. Here's some shots of the rebuild started, going back together as parts allow.

Fitted in the last couple of nights are headlights with new phillips h4s, new indicator housing gen vw still waiting on driver side, grill flaps with new foam seals made, new washer jets, wiper spindles and new grommets, new gen vw rear light housings with smoke lenses, fixed the issue with the rear lenses not working as before respray, had to extend wiring through lense housing possibly due to different lamp holder orientation, new engine hatch seal, refitted engine hatch, new number plate light, refitted door catches all round, refitted sliding door latch with new German rubber buffers, refitted front wheel carrier into rivnuts fitted before paint, new dual mount aerial.

    Some pics
