my 72 danbury crossover

  1. Right thought i'd redo my resto thread and show you what i've been up to......... so, the story goes....

i saw this van under a cover and kept an eye on it for a while. my mate was walking his dog when he happened to see the bloke who owned it and after a bit of talking the guy said he was thinking of selling it as he was out of work!...Bingo!

i left it a couple of weeks and we popped round to have a look. The guy agreed to let us have a look and took off the cover. This is what we found

Great a 72 danbury, pretty much original but a bit rusty and sorry for itsself. A bit of poking around and making out it was the worst van in the world a price of £1000 squids was agreed. Back to mine and let the fun begin!
    This is what we found:

3 coats of hi-build and hours of flatting by hand with wet 'n' dry we have a reasonably straight van. Next is to paint it all in pastel white.

  5. The next step was to flat the lower half below the beltline ready for the second colour, more rubbing down with 500 wet 'n' dry. You start to go a bit mad after rubbing the same panels for the 3rd time! effort = reward as they say!

  6. remask and back into the oven for 3rd time and on with the second colour......what to choose!!! i was going to go back to original which was a light blue, i cant remember the exact colour, here's the plate if you want to decode it

Lots of to'ing and throwing and this is what i've come up with....... drum roll.....

The interior i've kept original apart from the cushion covers which i managed to rope my mum into making for me! winner!
The plan is to take it to vanfest..........arrgh. two young kids and my wife on a maiden voyge from woking, surrey to malvern., finger crossed!
