Hi everyone We've just bought our first bus - a 1977 imported Sportsmobile! SO HAPPY. But know little to nothing, so am relying on the good things I've heard about thelatebay to get useful pointers and help. Having searched all over the 'tinternet I've found precious little on the Sportsmobile conversion, so if there are other owners out there I'd really appreciate making contact. Ady
Hello and welcome to the forum. Sorry I cannot help you on the Sportsmobile conversion (not heard of one before) but I'm sure someone will be along to provide info for you. Very friendly & knowledgeable bunch on here. Very nice van by the way, what are your plans?
Well hello you ! nice bus ,and ,! my own fav!>>> a mounting for air bag/wheel on front panel ,>jolly good ! (awaits the wrath of those who seriously do not like same !)
She came without an engine so she is at T2D who are rebuilding an engine for us. They are going to do a health check so we can see what needs doing - then it's all about prioritising. Get her on the road, through an MOT and registered first. Then we'll sort out the interior and the paint job will be last (based on budget it might be a long last). The plan is to use her for camping.
As soon as I saw the pictures of her, I had to have her. Love the roof rack and the double bed upstairs!
The paint work was really flat so we used a bit of T-Cut and you can see on the left the real colour:
We were sorely tempted by one last year, but ended up with a Westy, they seem to have quite a lot in common with a riviera. I believe Sportsmobile are still doing conversions, the cali equivalent of our Danbury
I contacted someone about the whether there was any switchability (if that's even a word) between a sportsmobile and a rivera but they said not. I also contacted Sportsmobile about the canvas via their facebook page and their response was: "Hi Adrian, Congratulations on your purchase! We no longer have the canvas or patterns for the 1977 models, you would probably have to get something custom made. I hope you have many great times with yourSportsmobile!"
I love this picture. I often think that that man plays with himself when he has his special "alone time" You know it's true.
