Got some more waxoyling done today. Rear 1/4s got some more. Gun threw a wobbly as i kinked the extension pipe so the doors look like there was an explosion in a custard factory. Clogged the nozzle trying to spray down the A pillars so thought i'd blast some white spirit though the gun but it blew the brass nozzle out across the garden instead never to be seen again. Didn't manage to get any in the chassis tunnel so or much in hte A pillars so i might just buy an aerosol can or two and use them instead as they seem less hassle.
Used a couple of big aerosols of cavity wax spraying down the A pillars and inside the chassis spine. They came with a nice 50cm long extension so could reach deep into the chassis spine from the front and back and through the gearlever hole. Fitted the access plate between the front beam again after its spent quite a few years sitting in the shed.
Got 3 of the wings fitted today. Just loosely for the time being as i have no wing beading. 9 out of 10 bolt holes lined up on the rear wings which is a big win with repro panels. I could swear all 10 lined up before paint though. Needs the lower bolt hole filing out 5mm to fit the last bolt. Level side to side. Front fits well for a repro. Just the one to fit here now. Its a genuine VW one so should fit OK.
Dug out the rear 1/4 panel cards. Cleaned up OK and don't look too bad for 48 year old pieces. No idea what the screw hole in each was for as i can't remember there being anything attached there. Only had enough clips to fit one panel. Think i need about 48 more to do the other and the two door panels. Looks like it could do with being moved up about 5mm.
Not a chance. Still need to buy some tyres, an exhaust and a front bumper plus a load of other bits but don't have the cash at the moment.
Dug my door pockets out today and offered them up. Not quite the same as the ones Kamei sold in the 1970s but close.
Closed cell on luggage floor and bulkhead. Stuck the rear arch carpets into place. Didn't do too bad on drivers side: But passengers side fought me. Its hidden behind the seat though and will be under the parcel shelf so not too much of a problem. Painted the border on the front plate. Garage floor is still dry even though its raining so hopefully that means i sorted the roof/wall leak. Been looking for stuff in the garage to sell to raise some funds for the bits i need. Gonna chuck this old Bosch fog light on as its not gonna be used.
Got the hoses from the heater channels to the dash vents fitted today. PITA of a job with the bonnet and hinges on. Still haven't worked out the routing of the tank breather hoses yet. Cut the rear luggae area carpet to size ready for sewing on its edge binding tape.
It’s more of a struggle for the likes of me an zeb being up north and living rural We have to go it alone and do the best with what’s available
