Mud tires advice needed.

  1. Ok so I'm thinking just for giggles and to actually keep moving what ever is thrown at me (my bus is my daily) of getting some off road tyres.
    Now at 14" there is really nothing out there so it looks like I'm going to have to source 15" wheels, once I've got them there is lots of options. I Used to be heavily involved in 4x4 so have a couple of tires in mind either BFG mud terrain (reasonable road manners) or Firestone SATs (more care needed on road ;-)) both are available at 15".
    What I don't want to do is over stress the drivetrain or totally bugger up the speedo reading. so my question is what profile tire do I chose at 15" that equates to the circumference of the standard 185 r14 as near as damn it?
    thanks.

  2. Off road tyres generally have deeper sidewalls which mean youll struggle to match the rolling radius of a 15" wheel to a 14" stock .
    Just a thought ...

  3. Both firestone and BFG produced tires for LADA and FIAT drivers so thats why I was hoping someone might know. They follow the same profiling rules. so if someone is running wheel and tire combo of 15" in road tire that matches the rolling circumference of the standard 14" set up thats all I need to know.
    I just thought that someone would be running 15" wheels and tires that would be able to give me data like wheels are 15"x6 and tires are 155 r 15 something like that.

  4. I understand what you`re saying but Standard is 185/R/14 so you`d be looking at a shallower sidewall which would be something along the lines of 185/55/15 . Others will be along to tell you these aren`t rated for van use - up to you ...
    @paul2590 , what size are yours ??

    195/70x15 is as close as you’ll get.
    Revs per mile with 185x14 = 787, 185/55x15 = 877, 185/65x15 = 825, 195/70x15 = 784.
    Those ebay tyres are more than 6% larger than standard, 740 revs per mile. And what is the load rating?

    205/55x15 = 845 revs per mile, 7% smaller than standard. 205/65x15 would be reasonably close 792 revs per mile.

  9. The load rating is 94 which is 670kg apparently

  12. Yep I saw those but I’m I’m liking the silly tonka toy look of the more aggressive tread pattern. I’ll only put them on in the snow etc so once I’ve bought them it’ll probably never snow again.
    The ones I’ve put the link to are correct load rating and look more aggressive so fit the bill I think.

    You're right though going to 15s gives masses more choice and is what I'll do next time!

  15. It does but tbh now I’ve found the kobras I’m happy to keep at 14” especially as steelies are next to nothing to get hold of. I’m thinking now £300 will get me a set of 4 wheels n tyres together. Just in time for the summer
