i have always found mot testing subjective , if the guy does his job properlyand tests the vechicle as he should then there is no reason to tighten up , it is / should be a very comprehensive test .
If you take it to a mate who might overlook the odd thing then thats your risk and i don't advise it and it may bite you when you sell .
What really got my goat recently was a mate who took his car to kwik ( ripoff ) fit for a mot , man by the time they had finished filling in the sheet it was a scrapper and surprise surprise it was all tyres , brakes , shockers, exhaust etc , no mention of headlight misalignment or the rust on chassis , so he took it to a independent tester and vosa who told him it needed a small weld patch , headlight realignment, and one tyre was a advisory !!.
He's now taking kwikfit to court , they were using the mot to make create work for themselves .

Places that only do MOT testing are the ones to go for. Anyone else can add work on far too easily.

  5. She passed her MOT first time with only a few silly advisories (rust and oil leak!) in case anyone is interested.

Best thing is the service uncovered a dirty fuel feed that was a)making her feel lumpy and b) causing some exciting moments when the engine cut out after engine breaking. Just drove home the 2 miles from Hurst with a huge grin on my face as she runs like a champ now.

  8. I think this is by and large, another scare story. They come out about every two years or so. If you're worried about testers "making stuff up" then go to your local council testing station who don't do any work themselves.

  12. I couldent get a parking space in town for love nor money once so i dropped the car off at quick fit for one of those free brake checks.
I told them to take there time and look at everything carefully as i have kids in the car

I went off to do my shopping quite chuffed with my parking space workround and laughing in the knowledge id done all the brakes the week before and it was only 2 days into its fresh mot

When i got back to the garage they had a big tick box sheet saying most of my braking system needed replacement as did the suspension and an exhaust box was blowing

  14. The tougher the better, the only thing that annoys me with the MOT is emmisions everything else I agree with & I think they should be stricter on safety issues :)
