Right, me dizzy seems fine, in, timed running well, I have noticed though that there is a slight wobble, hardly noticeable of the entire dizzy when running, it sort of goes when I rev it. My observations are. Its only slight and although I didnt notice it before it may well have been there. The shaft O ring is the original and it does go in rather easily The clamp looks crap If I grab the dizzy itself I can wobble it be hand to the same degree as it wobbles when running, moving the clamp. OR could it be a sign of something worse to come!!
Might be worth changing the o ring to tighten it up a bit and check the clamp is tightening up correctly while the dizzy is out.
Is the clamp sitting down on the case? Is the mounting stud threaded all the wall down to the case? Shouldn’t wobble (obviously).
Replace the replaceable bits and see what happens. Clamp flat on block , dissy shoulder on clamp, no gaps. Hope you have the coil spring under the drive dog in the top of the distributor drive gear down in the block.. another wobble stopper.
Right I have sorted it out, my dizzy packed in due to the fibre washers wearing out, i couldnt get any of the washers for weeks so a mate of a mate re shimmed it with phosphor bronze, while at Bus fest I found two dizzys of the same type for £5 out of a swap meet parts box, The washers arrived and I refurbed one of the dizzy, I noticed that the hole in the dog was a bit bigger than the shaft, I left a bit of end play, me engineer mate popped in, the one I had refurbed did not wobble. It would appear that the first one had been shimmed up too tight with no movement at all, end float or movement on the pin on the shaft, my mate pointed out that with the slot in the dog and the movement on the pin on the shaft it gave it a full range of movement removing any wobble. I have now removed the bronze bushes on me original and have a spare.
