    Hi

(UPDATE) Have been on her a while but hadn't posted a thread on my bus...

Ever since my Dad had a Vw t2 1973 bay, in Jaffa Orange over off-white, I wanted the same great memories for our 5yr old daughter, and set about looking at a few VW campers with Devon or close to that type of interior. With this in mind id set my heart on a marino yellow Danbury cross dresser for circa £15k, original and unwelded, but the guy sold it despite me going to pay cash for it on the weekend. Drove an VW late bay from OZ with mismatched devon interior, pudding gearbox and accident damage but was rough inside too.

It was then we went to see Barry and his great collection of VW campers. My daughter had great fun trying out all the campers, jumping in and out of them . We put her in the pull out hammock beds of the Devon and realised that she was tall even at 5yrs old as her feet touched the egde, so were drawn to the Westfalia's and Devon Moonrakers. I was turned off by the moonraker double top at firts because of the huge roof, looked like a barge on lol

But on looking at the moonrakers, they more suited our needs, cavernous up top and my daughter thought she was having an adventure! MY initial budget of £15k was too small and then set about buying a moonraker double top.

Luckily I found an honest looking Marino Yellow Devon moonraker doubletop, Paul Weeding checked her out for me and a combination of being in barn storage for the last 7 years and being garaged, meant that she was a good example, had a few rust issues, but generally was a sound bay, and he said she was the best condition genuine UK RHD bay he had seen! :)

Im grateful to Paul Weeding for checking her over and giving her the seal of approval and I went up to Durham to pick her up!

Drove back in the worst weather possible, I had no radio, no cigarette lighter and so couldnt charge my satnav (went flat on drive home), experienced her slowness and being overtaken by huge articulated lorries etc and being blown around the motorway but after the scary drive home, she was mine.

Since owning her for last 3 years, Ive tried unsuccessfully to get her worked on, to repair ie cut out rust, weld in new metal and panels etc. We've been royally let down by 2 esteemed restorer's and the yesrs have flown by, now into our 4th year of ownership and still no resto for our camper.

Hopefully after Covid19- "Dubs" aka Jason, will do the much needed bodywork and full repaint, to restore her back to her original 1980's glory :)

There’s a few good threads on here involving Paul weeding. Not sure if @PeaSoup ever did spill the beans.

I like the idea of stripes, I guess you’ll need darker stripes than what’s in your last pic?
