    Looks really nice dude!

  2. Love the seats.
The van is starting to look great especially with those over riders.
Do you have any pics of the over rider brackets? :)

  3. and @Chrisradioman this is what we did. I have a mate who restores Norton motorcycles. We sat down and scratched our heads, because I wanted the deluxe rubbers on the bumpers.

He welded brackets inside each overrider with a nut, so that we could bolt through the top and bottom of the bumper into the overrider:

In the final picture you can see the bracket.

This meant that it was easy to have the rubber running round the bumper

  4. Cool, that's a good idea. I made my own brackets also, but I used a completely different approach, not better or worse just different.
I'd love to see the proper VW ones just out of interest. :)

  5. So last night I removed the old, original bench seat to see what lurked beneath.

    And was pleasantly surprised

A lot of dust, but pretty good. The grey material hanging down at the top of the curve from the engine bay if from the back of the bench seat. There is a metal strip welded along that part that held the material.

  6. Using the original bolt hole on the left I trial fitted the R & R bed from @vanorak

Here it is from the other side

It sits proud but I'm not sure if this a necessarily a bad thing. Also that welded strip is right where I would potentially put a wooden baton.

    Couldn't resist

  8. Top job @AdyF  ......bit of knock in T section and you're sorted.....:D

For what it worth, that foam is better quality than the stuff you can buy these days......

  9. So took May Bell and the new Khyam Motordome Sleeper on our first weekend camping.

and it bloody chucked it down pretty much the entire time.

Very impressed with the motordome and also only found 2 leaks in the bus window seals. So a winner all round :)

  13. Well I can only apologise for my lack of updates on this thread :p

Maybell only had a few outings last year due to gear box problems; started with it being difficult to go from first to second as it got stuck in first (pushing down and pulling did the trick) but this then extended to third into forth as well. Needless to say it may driving a real pain. T2D came out to look at it, seeing as they fitted the gear box and it had barely run since. They didn't really fix the problem.

In early May I went to Peter at VW Aircooled Works to get a fire extinguisher fitted. Was very impressed with his knowledge and explanation of it prior to fitting and he did a bang up job  In the process he commented on an oil leak from the engine. I had already mentioned this to T2D during their work when they put the engine together.

So I first decided to get the leisure electrics installed by Peter. Eventually I decided to get a whole load of work done all at once, including getting him to fix the oil leak and have a look at the gear box.

He started with the oil leak and during the compression test he worryingly found number 4 barely registered on the gauge, rest were fine.

    Numbers 1, 2 & 3: [IMG]

    Number 4: [IMG]

Upon stripping down the engine he found that the inlet valve on number 4 was stuck due to being bent in the valve stem, a lot of localised damage in the stem but the head looked fine and fairly new. In fact both heads look to have been replaced recently and a big plus is that they are genuine VW not non-branded ones.

When the engine was installed, I didn't think to check over the set up, etc. o_O
It appears that the valve clearances and tappets were not set (ranging from 0.35mm to zero mm)

So onto the gearbox. This was sourced by T2D for me. I have a 1977 bay and it would now appear that I have a 1973-1975 gearbox. When installed the gear rod front end piece was too short and the linkage wrongly aligned.

I am a completed novice with VW T2's and would not have picked these things up myself. tuesday_wildchild
So a big thanks to Peter for sorting the problems out.

So that the major issues out the way, the next updates should be more positive.

  14. So here are some pictures of the leisure battery and electrics

  15. I had originally thought about installing a propex heater under the floor but on reflection didn't want any cutting into the underside of the bus.

I really want to keep under the bed as clear as possible so I can use it for storage, so plumbed for a petrol Webasto. This is nice and compact plus has the benefit of not needing an additional gas cylinder to carry about.[IMG] [IMG]
