I just spoke to a very helpful bloke at Past Parts in Bury St Edmunds. They sell a M/cyl service kit for a 23.8mm bore m/cyl - I haven't checked mine yet - for about £24. They also refurb the cylinder with a stainless steel sleeve (new one on me) which sounds good - £120 to refurb the whole thing.
They also offer a Servo refurb service for about £150 (if it's the type that can be taken apart).
Has anybody used these guys and does all that sound ok?

  2. How does that compare with the cost of a new ATE m/c? Might not be worth it.

  4. Also, re servo (if you've got one)...I doubt you could dismantle a Bay one. Crimped together, as I recall. Stick with the one you've got!

I've no idea if it works or not, I was just covering all bases. After all it would be the only thing I haven't changed or refurbished!

:D when I've finished with this lily white neck

  8. Neck? What bizarre personal habits do you have?

  9. The Brazilian ones work well enough, if it does pack up. Different mounting holes, tho'

  10. Bay M/S is 19/19 ... buy new ATE one every time

Sorry can't work out what that means??

  12. The bore of a bay master cylinder is 19mm /19mm (front /rear)

Thank you - not 23.8mm as they suggested on the phone then. Yes I agree - now that I know it's not the usual arm and leg cost - new one it is :)

  14. Correct ...

Well I've taken the M/cyl off. It does have a 23 stamped on it and a smaller 16 below that. The guy I spoke to said that means it is a 23.8mm bore . I think it's immaterial as when I got it off I found the bottom half of the servo full of brake fluid. Fairly sure that's wrong! I think it's come past the front seal to the push rod - am I right in thinking it shouldn't do that? Also does that mean the servo is now knackered? I swear not a single thing on this bus has been usable

  16. your bus had a hard life. Original master cylinder had a little weep hole to to drain the stuff outside but new onces do not have the same arrangement. and so they'll will leak into the servo. as long as its sealed and airtight Id try reusing it.
