If you are ever in Portsmouth and have a day to spare, I can recommend a visit to the museum. Very interesting indeed. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It’s fab, I agree. I loved HMS Warrior and the interactive display about what it’s like to be a submariner. Pretty grim, in précis.
That's exactly what my daughter said when she visited the Parthenon as a child! Mary Rose is a wonderful sight and the exhibition that explains everything is outstanding.
The thing that surprised me is that they are still working to bring stuff up. When the hull was raised in 1982, it was the first time I had heard of Mary Rose, yet they had already recovered most of the 19,000 artefacts that they have identified. It really is a magnificent achievement by very dedicated people. Am I going on a bit now? Just shows how impressed I was
You walk through that sub,the alliance? It sort of goes through the ages of submarerning. By bro is a retired nuclear sub ‘stoker’, so it’s nice to see what he did for so long.
No, we just went to Mary Rose. But I’m hoping to get back sometime in the future to see of the exhibitions and stuff, including the Victory, which is undergoing restoration at the moment. Apparently it was discovered that after so long in dry dock, it was settling, and starting to split in two. it’s a long way to travel from South Wales just to go to the Dockyard, so incorporating it with a visit to our son on the I.O.W. is perfect.
