Major oil leak

  1. Afternoon everyone quick question I fit a new main seal behind the fly wheel today put my engine back in fired up done a few adjustments and then looked underneath and found a puddle since then I've pulled it back out removed the flywheel to find little pieces of my new seal and it leaking very badly any ideas what I've done wrong

  2. Did you lube it when you fitted it? Where did you get the seal? Odd that it should just fall to pieces.

  3. What kind of engine?..pictures?

    Seated far enough back?
    Did you oil the seal at all at installation?
    Any marks on the flywheel?

  4. Got it from machine 7 the other day and yes put a slither of grease on it when fitting it's still intact just a few slices off it[​IMG][​IMG]

  7. There’s an oil seal in the flywheel too btw =] well it’s an o ring, need to change that too.

  8. That's odd. I'd try another one, just using engine oil as lube.

  12. Yep they leak well as the ring gets stiff from al the heat.

  18. Only other thing to kill a seal is massive amount of end float.

    Take the 3 end float shims out, and make sure the oil drain hole in the case is clear. If it's blocked, the pressure pushes the oil past the seal.

    I would guess the slivers are from the outside edge, that got shredded by the lip of the case on installation.
