  1. Forgive me TLB it has been more than a year since my last update :oops:

    So what's been happening then?

Well back in July 2012 I had twin weber 34ICT's fitted in an attempt to get a little more power. This turned into a nightmare  We broke down twice on the way to Cornwall, had to get a garage down there to look at her and this still didn't solve matters  We drove home having to ride the clutch when stuck in traffic as that was the only way I could prevent the engine from revving itself to pieces

New mechanic time, it was setup on a rolling road and seemed better but not as much power as I'd been led to believe, there were still a few pops and bangs plus a weird noise which I was told was fine - if it got worse then he would look at it.

That brings us to now and mechanic number three. This time I took her in as the popping was getting worse, just a little tune up I thought but how wrong could I be. It turns out that weird noise was probably down to cracked cylinder heads, one of them being that bad that the spark plug was covered in gunk, how it was staying in place is beyond me or the mechanic. The problems have been there for a while but have been ignored by previous mechanics. I can't understand why though as it a big job which will be accompanied by a big repair bill!!

I finally (fingers crossed) have found a mechanic I can trust, here are a few pictures of her current state..........

Why was this butchered - what purpose does this serve? the inside has a bit of red gunk to seal it but the other side is undamaged??

This explains why I stopped getting heat in the cab

Did someone say oil leak? Apparently it was leaking from pretty much everywhere including various places that didn't even have seals

    All empty:(

So that's what the inside of an engine looks like

Consigned to the scrap heap (well art installation in the garage lol) and soon to be replaced with a lovely 1641 top end rebuild kit. Also on the list as recommended by @zed is new bearings all round

I can't wait to get her back

  3. First time I've read any of this thread (so spent 15 mins reading, yes I am at work!) excellent thread - the good the, bad and the ugly, everyone buying a bus for the first time should have a look and see the dangers that lurk under paint and interior cupboards!!
Well done getting so far and good luck with taking it on further.
I love looking at the inside of engines !
    Cheers

  8. Aww thanks guys you've gotta love the TLB love.

It's been a hard slog and there have been times where I hated her but now I'm back in love with her - a tent this weekend just won't be the same :(
