Lord Percy passed his test !!

  1. We've not owned Percy for long and its our 1st VW. Last week we had a week off and pretty much covered over 500 miles in him to the seaside etc. He never missed a beat. Yep he's slower than anything ive ever driven before but oddly amusing and fun to drive. Its more involved keeping your momentum up for hills when you are on the lanes. He runs well if not a little wandery on the motorways (got 67mph!). I fitted electronic ignition on Saturday, now he feels smoother with a smidgen more pep. (i got 72mph!!). So now i feel i can trust him to go anywhere. Hes a 1600TP, with ASR1987 on the block, hencho en mexico. I note the engine was replaced with a vwheritage exchange in 2006 and has done 20k since (I have a full, complete and detailed history inc orig bill of sale and all manuals for him and the devon conversion). Is this engine okay? It feels okay and has no obvious problems.

Ive the leisure battery and all the bits as described by Mad Frankie for the 12v dual charge etc and will be doing that this week.

I would love to sort the steering though. Its more of a rudder than a steering wheel. Is this normal? If it is then i'll put up with it as a foible.

The steering is pretty much a rudder in a bus but do look over it. I drove an prototype bay last week and its steering felt more tighter than mine but mines been checked and is ok.
