Looking for advice after a crash

  1. Without an agreed valuation policy, the insurers would only offer their 'book' current market value which would likely be much lower than what its worth to the owner.

    I would wait and see what the damage assessment says and the costs and how much it would cost to get it repaired yourself. Looking at the pictures, it may well become an insurance economic write off.

    It will take time to sort out as your insurers would be in touch with the other party's insurers to agree liability, even though the other party may have admitted fault at the time, you will have to wait for a copy of their report.

    Be patient.

    There’s only 1 person I’d take that to that’s fairly local and it’s panelkraft in arsley. You can tell your insurance company where you want it repaired. You don’t have to use the garage they say.

    @DrNinjamonkey
    "Clem" (Mike Clements) did ours, with great care, but we're within keen-cycling distance of Gloucester, so not sure whether he can do an assessment based on photos? Nice guy. Definitely worth asking.

  7. this time last year a couple of boy racers hit my Polo up the backside when I was queuing in traffic. it wasn't my fault and the other driver admitted fault at the scene. but the other driver made a report to his insurers that I was partly to blame and they never accepted liability. so both insurers did a 50/50 deal. my insurers said my car was a write off due to cost of replacing rear plastic bumper, I told them I would keep my car and repair it myself. they offered me market value, less £88 salvage and less £150 excess and I ended up with my car, bought a nice used bumper off ebay for about£30 and pocketed the rest.

    my Polo cost peanuts to repair, but the damaged camper would likely cost thousands to repair with labour, parts, paint, specialist realignment etc. so may not be worth keeping. depends on the owner and how much insurance payout and if the payout would pay for the repairs.

  8. This doesn’t make sense
    If you rear end another vehicle it’s automatically your fault unless the vehicle in front has defective brake lights.

  9. I agree it makes no sense. It turned out that the boy racers told their insurers I reversed into them despite my witnesses making statements that I was in the queue and they saw the other car speeding and driving straight into me. Another complication I found out the boy racers insurers were owned by Direct Line who also own Churchill, my insurers. I don't trust insurers as they clearly do whatever suits them. At the end of it all, I didn't lose financially but kept the car and pocketed quite a bit.

  10. How bad was yours in comparison? Would you mind passing on his details?

    Thanks for all the tips guys. I will add an update once i know whats happening, fingers crossed.
    Hopefully the insurers will be in touch (they didnt today despite saying they would). Bit of a whirlwind couple of days. Thanks again.

    Mine was fine ... He did a valuation. I don't know for sure but the impression I have is that he would be able to see past the damage on yours and give an authoritative current market value.

  12. Can’t add anything to all this excellent advice except to say massive hard luck to you. At least the twit hit you on a relatively thick, tough bit of the bay - could've had your leg off otherwise.
    So in an odd way thank lucky stars and I hope whatever outcome you get is a good one.
