So @SweeneyTodd I know it's a hard decision but have you thought about who you're going to vote for:rolleyes:

Apologies for the late reply. I'm not at all political but I did do an economics based Masters Degree and have a good understanding of revenue and finance. I agree that the Tories have ambitious spending plans but they seem better costed and financed, they also probably won't see it through lol!. I'd be happy with either a moderate Labour or Tory government as in reality it would make little difference. Economically Corbyns spending plans will be catastrophic as the revenue streams will not materialise, you can raise taxes on tech giants all you like but they'll simply make their profits and pay taxes elsewhere. He seems happy to bang on about "the few" but it didn't work in the 70's when they were taxed at 90% that's what brought about the concept of offshore banking and multinational profit making. We often rely on the few for our own wealth, take my last company where the directors were paid an obscene 100% bonus on top of their huge salaries, however that meant that I got a 20% bonus. If a future government were to cap their bonus to 50% guess what? I'd only get 10%!

I know the Toires did a overinflated costing of Labour (fictional) plans but didn't realise they had released costing of their own promises. Maybe not a popular (and I may get hammered for this) choice but the only politician I thought got it about right was Gordon Brown.

  12. Re Councils desperate for money, did you see the report about Councils and parking fines. Seems to be an easy source of big revenue for them. Its another effect of the Tory cut backs. I don't see any Tory promises to give Councils more money.

I live close to the old cemetery and the council want to dig up the paupers graves for new executive homes. Those poor folks who died in the workhouse are going to be dug up and dumped in a mass grave just to provide expensive homes for the London rich.

Meanwhile local young people and families cannot ever afford a home, some of my neighbours have their adult kids and children living with them. Its divisive and all about the haves taking it all and the have nots getting nothing.

  13. I don't understand how the labour plans to re-nationalise all these things stack up and once they are back under government control where the money comes to develop/advance these things?

  14. 100bil for privatization of BT that going to be a real cost not a pie in the sky one. And we would probably take on the huge pension issues BT have.

It's hard for me as the son of an ex miner and who's grandfather worked down tha pit to be so negative about labour but having seen first hand the nasty way some of the trade union activity was im not surprised with the mistrust I have.
I did go to a labour meeting last week to see and listen I walked out when I got called comrade for the second time.

Times have moved on. I could go on

  15. Lucky you! Mrs ST works for the current govt but hasn't seen a wage rise for the last 10 years let alone a bonus!! Passed over for promotion countless times for someone willing to kiss arse.... This had led to her having to take on 3 other peoples workload (including her boss) without recompense.

No need to get hammered, He didn't do a bad job and indeed is a man of integrity, however his legacy will always be the abolition of ACT for pension funds which took about 4 billion out of personal pension funds.

I appreciate that I was fortunate enough to be paid a bonus and I know that public sector workers have had a pretty tough time over the past few years, but the point I was trying to make is that most of us rely on crumbs from the table and if you reduce the size of the loaf the crumbs dry up. A bit clumsy I know but I'm trying to be objective.
