Late brakes on earlyish bay

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Ben_CVR, Aug 16, 2019.

  1. Evening, has anyone had any issues fitting late bay brakes to earlier bay using the spacers from heritage and the like? I’m using them on my 72 single cab. I’ve put the pacers between the caliper and the spindle and it’s still binding on the disc. Plus the I’m not comfortable using the old bolts as they don’t have much thread left in the spindle.

Any help with this would be good!

  2. Something not right there

  3. Yup!

I think I need to clarify what early and late brake differences are.

  4. I can grab some pictures from mine in the morning (not now as its dark and I’m drunk..)
    I may need reminding
Ernie the swampdonkey has new calipers on drop spindles from heritage so should be pretty similar (71)

    Hopefully I’ll remember

  5. Thanks man! Obviously in the picture it’s not tight and no pads in.

If it is touching one side, measure the gap the other side, halve the measurement, and alter the effective thickness of the spacer by that amount.. If the answer is a negative thickness spacer, woops.
Otherwise try stacks of washers. When its central then get spacers made that are the same thickness(unless that is just the thickness of a washer anyway..)

  7. Yeah will into it. But the kit from heritage is meant to take care of that with out the work. Thanks though

  8. I don't know about that kit but I know there are two different dimensions of disc for the crossovers, one is thinner than the other. I originally bought the wrong ones.

  9. Coming to the conclusion cross overs are a pain in the arse.

So by Monday I should have late discs/callipers and late spindles. We’ll see if that helps ‍♂️

  10. Yep ! I have one and broke another for parts, the amount of differences between them was ridiculous.
