Lack of voice .. any suggestions?!?

  1. Well, I have got up this morning and rather than being able to talk can croak and squeak ... just :(

Freya spent most of the walk to school asking me questions just so I couldn't talk properly to her ... charming child! Although she did make Matt look down my throat to see if there was a frog!!!

So ... any suggestions to help me get back to being able to talk would be greatly appreciated!!

And yes ... I know not trying to talk would be a good idea ... but it just doesn't come naturally to me :)

    Thank you in advance :)

  2. When I was 19 I lost my voice for 3 weeks - literally could not speak.

It may be worth going to the dr's and getting something to help. Get well soon!

I ended up having an aray of a4 signs to get through the day.

'yes' 'no' 'i've lost my voice' 'can i have a vodka' etc

  3. This is exactly what happened to me a few weeks ago. I woke up felt fine but totally unable to speak. After two days I went to the doctors. He looked at me from over the desk and said 'Mmm, youve lost your voice'. He added that it can be the start of a nasty bug and that if I started to feel ill in a couple of days to stay away from others as it was contagious but that I had probably already spread it. Low and behold, the next day I was taken down by a yakky type of flu with stomach 'trouble'

    Good luck

  4. there is a lot of this going round - loads of people at work are sick with lack of voice

  5. From my acting days I used to be able to repair my voice for an evening show by not speaking and drinking lots of warm honey and lemon.

Also - try to think about not speaking from your throat but rather use your diaphragm to push sound up - you'll feel a bit of an idiot but the best way to get the feeling right is to lie on your back and put your hand on your stomach and try to use that muscle to push your voice out.

a small amount of scotch can also help

    Good luck - it's a horrible feeling

Not a great deal you can do - I'm assuming it isn't sore, just no voice.

You can get some pastilles called Vocalzone which help ease it a bit. Available from all good Chemists (at least they are in my shop)

Any glycerin type pastille will help a bit but it will go when it's ready. :)

  7. thank you everyone

I will try and keep quiet and hope like mad I don't suddenly get ill over the weekend ... I did start the week off with a really sore throat but have felt absolutely fine the last couple of days, although to be fair, it doesn't hurt at all .. I just croak/squeak ... if I am lucky!

It does sound like a medicinal drink will be required this evening :)

Thanks again ... I guess Matt & Freya should just enjoy the quiet whilst it lasts :p
