    Currently running on standard 14's - 185's

Not sure the budget will stretch to a subarugears setup yet - the main aim is to get it going nice which will be a massive improvement on what I had, but keep a lookout for reasonably priced 6 rib (or use 5 rib T25 DK) for a future rebuild.

Will help you work out what mph at any rpm in any gear
You need your full tyre info including ratio: 185 ? R 14

You can see what will happen with a 1600 gearbox 6 rib or 5rib using the gearbox ratios in this post

  4. I suppose it matters less on a Scooby, as you can rev them as high as you like

Looks like that’s a late 1600 4th ratio in a 2.0l box. With my standard 6 rib and 195/70x15 tyres 70mph is just under 3,700 revs.

  6. You can rev a type 1 1600 as high as you like too...

    But only once.

  7. It was a 3 rib gearbox rebuilt by bears with different final drive and other bits. I know it was different to proper 6 rib ratios, can't remember exactly why except to give me the best outcome based on my wheel tyre set up

  8. I should have a "good" 6 rib for sale around January if you want.
And by "good" I mean working perfectly fine but used for a while with a scooby engine. So probably very close to self destruction if I believe what I've read in this thread!

Saw a 6 rib on eBay today. Nothing to do with me and I have no ideas on condition etc but at £400 expect a rebuild

This is escalating! Got this on Thursday a 2.5 Legacy, and now seriously looking at the Subaru gears setup....

Need to find a flywheel/starter, and now looking at a gearbox- in hindsight should have a bought a manual but seems they're thin on the ground.

    Yes,

    I'm not biting.

  17. As @Sick Boy suggested I'm going for a 3 rib to avoid down shifting in the roundabout... ;)
Or maybe I got convinced to go subarugear by the grin on your face. :)

  20. Here is a standard 1600 3 rib gearbox that is in very good shape otherwise (nice and sharp synchro teeth, good bearings) but already have cracked 3-4 hub - don't have a macro lense so its hard to see but it does have cracks radiating from sharp corners of the cutouts. So here is your evidence.
