Just put my Stormforce cover on

  1. Well, I finally decided that it must get cold, wet and snowy at somepoint soon, so I decided to put my new stormforce cover on. Had to take my visor off and then it fitted like a glove. Definately a 2 man job, its like trying to fit a giant duvet !!

The stormforce cover is meant to be breathable, but how often should I remove the cover to give my bus an airing?? Don't want to be airing and it then it rains for 2 weeks solid !!

Also, if the weather gets really bad, i.e roof full of snow, do I clear it off, or just leave it on?

    Anyone got one?

I'd get it off every dry weekend available.

  3. I've got a stormforce and they are great...!! The bus got an airing if the weather was sunny or when i was doing bits to her (if it was sunny, dry roads and a weekend then we went for a cruise out..!!) . When we had the heavy snow last year i just left the snow on top, it melts away and runs off the sides. :)

  4. I wrote and posted this the other day, I know ours isn't a Stormforce, but this is what happened to us.

Our Joycee is a dry van. Shes been out in all weathers since we got her, never a problem.
She has been at grandads since last saturday(10 days) with her new jk cover on. We opened her up today and everything is damp. the seat cushions are wet, there is mould in the front on the sea grass mats(we didnt buy them ) condensation marks on the work tops etc. nothing too bad as we have found it early!`

We have a moisture trap( not in her yet) and we left the windows all closed. things which may have not have helped.

I just wanted to let you know. If we had left her un-opened for much longer, we would have had a mess to sort out.

  5. Took my cover off Monday just gone, after having it on for 8-10 days. It had rained during this period. Bodywork was bone dry and no condensation or dampness in side. My front windows do have mesh vents at the top on both sides.
Was very pleased. Will remember not to leave handbrake on again, because even over this short period, the rear drums were sticky and squealed a lot when pressing the brake pedal.

Will leave it for 2-3 weeks and have another look.

    So far, very happy.

How much they cost? Got a link? We want a cover, so the stormforce the best?

  7. Go to CoverYourCar.co.uk Stormforce is around the £170 but it's like a Duvet..!! Very well made and went for the pocket alarm and security cable to..!! :0)

  8. Mickey, we have a Super Viking top - do you think the cover would fit ours?

We are about to purchase in the next few days!!!

Also - is this actually true from the web description??!! ???

"Will not fit campers with front or rear wheels fitted. "

  9. Dean,

I was just searching on ebay and found mine. here is the link

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STORMFORCE-Car-Cover-VW-Type-2-Camper-Van-Bus-Outdoor-/120811776666?pt=UK_Car_Exterior_Accessories&hash=item1c20f16a9a

Was a £168.50. Very happy with it. It came very well packed in it own stormforce bag. Don't think I'll ever get it back in there, lol, it worse than trying to pack a sleeping bag !!

    Yorkshirecampers,

add gumph does say - This cover will fit all classic type 2 campers, Splitty or Bay, with or without poptop. ( Upto Westfalia ) - Will not fit full top conversions or vans with high racks on.

I have a visor on the front of mine which the guy who answered my question on ebay said it would go over. He did say if it did not, I could return it. I could not get it to fit nicely. Was 90% ok, but I was not happy. Was going to send it back, but decided to remove the visor (only 6 screws), as I could not think of an alternative cover for the price.
    Now fits 100% ok.

I would say the cover would go over yours no problem, but the elasticated hem, may not quite reach down and fit snug over bumpers. The cover is big and does have a lot of room, but you would have to buy it with a slight chance you may have to send it back. (confirm that with company)

As for the front or rear tyre. I would imagine it would be a close fit, but it comes down to will it secure over the bumpers. (not 100% sure)

If I get time tomorrow, I'll try and put some pics up of mine.

  10. Pulled ours over Reggie last weekend and it fitted really snuggly. Reggie has a Devon rear wheel fitted and the elasticated hem went over and down to the bottom of the bumper.

Have checked during week and very dry inside, not had a lot of rain/condensation tho'. We left louvres and roof vents open. Gonna take off this weekend and give him a run.

I've had a JK one for the last 4 years but its now started leaking badly. Up untill now i've been very happy with the fit and the quality. I think I'll have a go at sealing it with fabsill or something like it. :(

  12. I drive my bus every opportunity I get. Even in winter. I had to work today (Sat) and decided I'd take my bus to make the trip enjoyable.

Isn't it best to use them every week?

  13. Mickey - Do these covers come with door access like the JK one? If not just wondering how much hassle it is to get it off so I can get in to tinker inside over the winter months.

Have many people had much issue with condersation and dampness when using covers? I am keen to protect the bus in the best way I can (unfortuantly a garage or lean-to aren't options), but seem to get conflicting views on whether you should use a cover or not

The stormforce doesn't come with doors or zips but it is held by plastic buckle straps under the belly. All you have to do is unclip them on one side and you can slide under the side and get to the slider door no problem. I have no garage or lean to either and i have had no problem with the cover. I air it when i can but have had no prob's with condensation but i do work on her when i can and that airs her out. :0)

I don't know if the link above to a photo works but you can see she is nice and snug in the snow..!! ;0)

My cover is on for about 5 months every year, but i've never had a condensation problem. It is in a very windy spot, so i think this helps.

  16. Had the cover off today, been on for 2 weeks and no condensation to be seen..!! Did some work on the bus (Door Locks), took her for a spin and now happily tucked up again..!! ;D

  17. Ok- a few pointers that I have picked up along the way for you!
I don't think the JFK one is breathable hence it will get condensation underneath!

I did purchase a storm force cover first (think that is my pic on Coveryourcar website)- is a good cover but I had an issue with it not covering my westy, it would ride up over the bumpers as was just too small IMO! To their credit tho they gave me a full refund !! This cover would be great for a tintop or a smaller pop top tho.

After this I went for a Hamilton cover, which is a larger fit and a bit heavier cover, had it a while now and pleased with it, they even say it can be placed over a wet vechicle and it will dry out ??

  18. Simo - is that a Hamilton outdoor cover? Looks very similar to the internal one I had for a TVR from them, I have an outdoor cover from them for a bug and it isn't the waffle type material, more the shiny silver'ish stuff.

I assumed the bus cover would be same so was about to order one...

Also, the fit in those pics looks slacker than my old JK cover (and I have a Westy too). I'm assuming that the drying is because of ventilation rather than breathability?

I'm glad I found your post to ask the Q's, as I genuinely had the Hamilton order filled in at weekend but laptop died and I never got off the sofa to go upstairs for charger...

  19. Hi scoob - yes it is an outdoor one, it is a 5 layer waffle type one, think the drying thing that they are on about is because it is breathable! It is quite a generous fit, someone over on earlybay ordered one to fit over a front mounted spare I think as well, so maybe they have different sizes? Comes with 2 underbody straps fitted which work well. Had mine since last winter and all good so far ;)
