I would think if you put that on a car trailer it would be over the legal weight to tow behind a bay!

  4. Well that's a good question. What is the legal limit towing with a Bay? I've seen it done, not in the UK, I might add.

My head has been saying a T4 or a T5 for a while now, but my heart says aircooled....

I’ve done it lots but only short distance, 2.0Fi in a pickup but I wouldn’t want to go far or up many hills, biggest concern though is stopping it, bays are tail heavy anyway without a trailer, steering can go very light!

    Totally illegal by the way

Funny I typed into Google and it was TLB to the rescue, I suspect my Bug weighs quite a bit less than a T2 or T25 even with a quality trailer. Mine hasn't been on the scales but its been on a bit of a diet and stock they are 760kg. According to the post it's OK, but the steering is an obvious concern.

One thing you definitely can’t do is use an A frame unless you’re the AA or RAC , even an empty car transporter trailer will slow an already slow vehicle down considerably, they just don’t have the low down grunt you need .
@pkrboo tows an Ariba catering caravan with a Subaru 2.5 conversion

  8. Was thinking of a trailer pulled by a Type 4/2 Ltr tin top. As far as I know, the RAC guys are told to get the driven wheels off the ground so they must use something else than an A-frame, mustn't they?

  9. hello and welcome from west yorkshire :)

you're in the right place if you're looking for low down grunts (but we tolerate them) :D

They use those dolly things or solid bars I think .
I wouldn’t discourage anyone from using aircooled but I fear you’d have overheating problems towing a beetle on a trailer and then you’d be needing to get 2 broken vehicles back from race weekend

  11. Your depressing me now....wanted to be less boring than a T something or other, far too many of those already at meets :( Last one I went to was like a plumber's van convention (I didn't say that, if anyone asks, it wasn't me...and you don't know who I am...).

What about a big external oil cooler? Already have plenty of experience with those.

Go for it, if you get a good one you won’t loose money if you decide it’s not right

    And your point is?? :)

  14. Well that's what I was thinking, but please don't say I told you so....
Not enough air-cooled at meetings, too many water cooled T4/T5 etc I like them, but it's not the same, is it?.....

    I'll get me coat!

  18. You can! The legal limit for an unbraked trailer is 750kg so if its lightened from original 760kg weight you'll be fine on an A frame that has inertia braking not that i'd want to tow long distances with one mind:D

  19. I second that

  20. Agreed, but at a recent VW show I saw very little else, a few more air-cooled would have been a good thing.
