Just found a petrol leak, which part is this?

  2. I wouldn't say it was 8mm if it wasn't

To be clear, I only linked the site, not the product!
Any decent motor factors will sell the proper clips.

thanks paul, do you think my leak is more likely the pipe than the "thing" in the picture that is in that area?

  8. yeah, i woulkd say it's the pipe... the fuel reg is very simple in design, so i would be very supprised if it had failed

ok ta, i usually watch the f1 and the forum after but i'm that keen to find out i'm going out as soon as the race finishes, i have about half a tank of fuel in, will it leak from this side of the system or is this only when pressurised with engine running?

ermmmmmm? i'm a bit thick lol 8mm is the INTERNAL diameter yes? that would explain the big clips, just want to be 100% so i don't get the wrong stuff.

cool, how many clips will i need to buy and how much hose? i'll buy them ones you linked later tonight.

  14. 3 meters of hose and 12 clips if you're doing the hose back to the tank, 8 if you're just doing the engine bay :)

Cheers Paul, i've had a good look round the whole system and cracked/cut my head on the gearbox to boot! it seems like the pipes have all been replaced at one time using jubilee clips all round the inside of the engine bay on the short runs, these look sound and the only dodgy bit does look around the leak area where it joins the "fuel pressure regulator?" it looks dry at the rear of that pipe which goes through the bulkhead but it's impossible to tell without removing the pipe and i'm not going to do that until i have some new pipe. the only parts that are fixed with proper petrol pipes are the 2 small rubber pipes that i presume come off and return? to the tank just above the starter motor, i'm going to get some pipe and replace the faulty section in the 1st instance to confirm it is the pipe and not the "regulator?".
i did a short video of all of the pipes just incase it helps anyone else who is unsure of the layout of the fuel lines although it's not very clear under the van.

  16. VW did clamp the fuel lines on Fuel Injection engines. remember they get up to 33psi so will easily blow a non clamped line off. the black tube on your FPR that isn't clamped is the vac hose as the FPR is regulated by the vacuum from the engine.

If you can wait and if they will ship get this kit: http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16400&cat=&page=1 it is excellent. i used it on mine.

good video by the way, however you have followed it backwards. it goes from the tank to the filter to the pump then into the engine bay round and through the Fuel Pressure Regulator and then back to the tank. the take offs on the fuel rails go to the injectors. on the left hand side fuel rail (1,3 head) there is a take off where you can fit a fuel pressure gauge temporarily to test the Fuel Pressure Regulator.

yes i guessed the thin rubber hose was a vacum thingy, i've heard stories that jubilee clips are a no go but they all look ok to me - is this one of those debates like what engine oil to use?

  18. best to use non chafing clamps like the ones in the link above. the tighten but have a smooth inner to the clamp. jubilee clips bite into the rubber shortening its life and risking early failure and a possible fire. I say use the definite correct stuff and have piece of mind.

yes i guess you're right, i saw a engine build on here the other day (maybe tezza?) he used jubilee clips, as i say and you can see on my video, they look sound but i will replace them all soon but for now i'll sort the leak, ideally i wanted to wait until i took the van off the road to repalce it all so i can do it inside in the dry and not care if i don't finish it etc.
