  1. SOLD 1975 VW BAY WINDOW CAMPER - LHD -

The time has come to put our beloved José the Mexican camper up for sale. Built in Mexico, he spent much of his life in Mexico City until being imported to the UK approx. 12 years ago. The rear window still has his original Mexican licence registration stickers.

I’ve owned him nearly 10 years and he’s used daily and in good running order. But, with the kids getting older, he is now getting used less for camping and so the time has come for him to go and find more adventures elsewhere.
    Good bits
Engine – 1600cc twinport – reconditioned approx 6-7 years ago and done approx £15K since. New exhaust/heat exchangers about 2 years ago.

Gearbox – recon at the same time as the engine

Original Solex carb – also reconditioned with new bushes, jets etc. All petrol lines replaced with pipes which should withstand the modern petrol (including the hard to get ones on the petrol tank breathers).

Brakes were all rebuilt with new parts (disc/callipers up front, drums at the rear) when I bought him and have been regularly serviced since.

Tin-top roof with solid gutters, he’s obviously had a respray before we bought him, but generally the paint is in good condition.

Non walk through model with a Full width rock & roll bed. Storage unit holding a small Waeco compressor fridge and a porta-potti. We always had a separate cooker unit set up in the awning as he’s only a tin top and I'm nearly 6 foot!

    Not so good bits
He’s beginning to show his age in the usual places around the wheel arches and window seals etc. Rear valence is tatty and the metal work around the battery tray in the engine bay will need replacing/welding. Outer (and inner?) Sills also have a few bubbles and would benefit from replacing. Front Seat belt mounts will also need welding. Jacking points were also mentioned as an advisory on the last MOT so they'll need looking at.

Tax free and MOT exempt – although he has an MOT until April 2019 at present.

A great camper that's given our family a ton of beautiful memories, but that now deserves to move on to a new home who can give him a bit of love before he starts his adventures again.

    Price £4,950 ovno

Located nr Alton, Hampshire - GU34 area

  2. and so that I'm totatally upfront on the bits that need attention, heres the close up shots of the work that needs doing. I reckon most of it could be done as a rolling resto and keep using him in between.
