The banding together of righteously indignant Devon kombi owners :D :D

Edit: and if I remember correctly, also of people born on June 1st! Spooky!

  5. my mechanic (old vw chap, vw apprentice mechanic when splitties were new!) said that vw insisted on them for the Devon conversions.

Mine is an October '72 so i've not a clue but will definitely be putting the pans back even if not needed, in the hope they offer some protection at least :) and i will be adding extra holes too.
that reminds me, must ask schofields to add drain holes to the sill panels - this time i'll make sure they stay unblocked!

Indeed, although we plan to ditch the bed (Eleanor doesnt come camping anymore) and put a small set of drawers up there for clothes as we can mount them on the bedboard

Panel vans didn't have them in :p

Joking aside, and genuinely appreciate the correction on panel vans, Westies seem to have the crossmember in body colour which implies they were build at factory like that.

Looking at sunroof models, the roof opening goes as far back as the crossmember, Westies actual hole goes all the way back to near the rear vents, but again the 'hole' isn't cut out it looks more like the roof panel is cut that way anyway.

To add, the westy roof bed base is bloody heavy ply, I imagine it gives a fair old smount of structural rigidity from the crossmember back in its own right.

  18. No pans on my 71/72 US Westy, it has an external underslung gas tank. I do wonder if they came off when the tank was fitted? Does anyone know? Is the tank a US fitment or an upgrade option done by Westfalia themselves?

  19. Good coz Westfalia s need that middle bar to support bed above others might not if they don’t have beds above and belly pans fitted :D
