  1. I have a quandry! Mrs ST & I own a dog, Luna. She is lovely & goes everywhere with me (us).
This is my quandry..... I have been offered another dog!
A guy we did some work for has 7 dogs, British bulldogs & a French bulldog & is breeding some of his British bulldogs, which have had pups.... however the new mums are attacking the poor Frenchie. The guy says she will end up getting killed! He says we can have her.
I already take Luna everywhere, how will I manage two dogs? Will Luna be ok with it? Can I live with myself if I don't take it?
    What do I do?

I’m thinking that you want the dog, but are looking for someone to blame - i.e. the TLB collective - if it goes pear shaped. :hattip:

  3. I'm not into the blame game bern..... I do really need some advice, my head says no but my heart says maybe if the dog we already have is ok & things fit into place..... I certainly don't want to upset what we aleady have

  5. No we would have her speyed after her first season which I believe is imminent, she is a 12 months old black & tan apparently. I could ring the guy & arrange a meet for the dogs but I am scared that we will want her once we've seen her... this & the fact she is getting attacked would deffo sway it for Mrs ST!

We’ve thought about getting another dog but have resisted because we don’t want to ruin the relationship we have with Milo, think long and hard John,

Take it :) . A dog breeder who says his other dogs will kill it is imho a nobber and is in it for the cash not the welfare of his animals

He's not really a dog breeder but a DPD driver so worse than a nobber! He even had the gaul to complain about my paintwork on his van!! I didn't paint it!! Just did the welding & bodywork!!.......nobber! new word of the day!

    Oh how I laughed!

  12. You need to have seriously think about this. We have a spaniel bitch and was offered her litter sister, this was about 4 years ago (so she would have been about 2 years old) having thought long and hard about this we turned the offer down, as having done some research, we found that bitches if they don't get on may fight to the death. If they don't get on you then have a serious issue with what to do, you either have to re-home one or you have to keep them separate in your own home. In the end we did get a second dog, but a dog, this was last year when she was 5 years old) it hasn't been a bed of roses the older one she clearly resents the younger dog and they don't live in harmony and play together as we imagined. If someone had said it could be like this then I don't think I would have got the second dog, now we have him we work it as best we can, hopefully in time he might calm down and they might become best 'dog' friends but we are some considerable way from that. So you are right to consider the impact on your relationship with your existing dog, I don't think you mentioned how old they were?

As Ms Cat says this guy is using the dogs and probably over breeding just to make some money. Either take the dog or report him.

  15. I can offer a little advice. For what it’s worth.

When my first rotty who I’d had from a puppy got to about 18 months old I really wanted another one. I admit I’m very soppy over dogs and treat them like babies, so my rotty has been very spoilt and was centre of attention.

Lots of people warned me about getting another one, saying she wouldn’t take to having another dog in the house. I didn’t listen. Got another puppy anyway and you’ve guessed it. They went on top be best friends their whole lives.

Dogs need company. They are a pack animal. They don’t do well on their own. At least if your current dog has the company of another dog in the house then if you ever do have to leave them for a while they aren’t on their own.

There will be a period of adjustment as the new comer realises she’s not gonna be top dog, but once you’re through that I’m sure you be very happy you rescued her.

We got another border as a friend for our 1st they sometimes fought but mainly got on. The only problem he had been over bred and was proper mental.
