Is my wood good enough, or should I get something stiffer?

  1. I took out the interior of my '73 devon because wood and welding don't go well together. Now I am not sure if I want to put it back in where it belongs, I have done some research and I am starting to think that a rock n roll bed would be the best way forward. My daughter sometimes gets car sick. I'd prefer her to be sat in the back with my wife, all seat belted up, but the Devon insides are not well suited for seatbelts. I'm not too worried about cupboards and stuff right now, but I have got the vinyl floor waiting to go in. I don't want to fit that and then put the old wood back, because it is likely to spoil it if I change my mind.

Is there a second hand market for devon interiors?

Depends if you can eat them if crunched up and mixed with milk (badly glued chipboard with veneer/laminate post 1973) or real wood built by carpenters.

There is I would think for the older oak trimmed type, not sure when they changed but mine was a 74 with RR bed and disgusting crumbling peeling furniture made from chipboard which was only fit for the skip in this day and age.

  4. only mint ones IMO...proper seatbelt anchorage is your most important consideration....for my money, the ones that @davidoft makes are the easiest way to go for inertias....you can then fit your Rn' R bed and interior units to suit

Not the best pics ever but it does look like ply rather than laminated chip board which would mean you have the better units!

But a bed made out of about 10 boards you have to shuffle about? That would do ma heed in.

  11. It aint like that... you just flip one board over..... that joins the back seat with the middle seat.

I had this interior in my first bus ( or the Danbury equivalent ) nice interior for a day van, but as said above pita for making the bed and using when one person wants to saty in bed and the other wants a cuppa.

I would imagine there would be a market if it is in good condition. It is nice and original and looks good when done properly. The thing with those old interiors were they were removable to comply with the Canterbury Pitt style camper furniture that originated to avoid purchase tax. They were the established British camper style.

  15. Looks like a Caravette from what I can see :) Got one in mine, it's damp and soggy. Never mind, eh.

  16. I took my ratty chipboard Devon interior out. I've put a rock and roll bed in and intend to re-make the wooden interior in oak veneered ply. That way it looks classic but is more solid.

  17. Just shouted your question to the wife, she has no idea what forum I'm on but has advised you to go for the stiffer option !!!
