Is it a record? I bought a new motor in 15 minutes

  1. Well, after giving me nowt but headaches for the last two years and after spending a grand at the dealer at the start of this year, my A3 has hacked me off for the last time. Today, I impulsively (not like me at all) drove into a dealership, pointed at a car in the showroom and said how long will it take to have that? Aparently no time at all. Part ex price was stupidly high ( I would have taken a lot less) deposit paid on a Fiat 500. Funky creamy colour with two tone brown and cream interior. Once the number plate is transferred I can have it. Anybody got one?

  2. No but they look like nice cars

  4. My missus has a Fiat 500. In the first year we had to have the oil changed 4 times. The dealer asked me if I was a driving instructor. No I said.

'Well then you're not driving it enough. The engine never gets up to temperature. It's dragging fuel into the particle filter, you need to take it down the motorway once a week'

I told him that we'd bought it as a town car. An economical runabout for short journeys. Like they'd described when we bought it. I told him I'd worked it out and we were spending an extra £10 a month in oil. That and driving down the motorway once a week for nothing hardly constitutes economy.

In the second year they reprogrammed the ECU and we only had to change the oil 3 times a year. After a slight argument with the missus about something or other I got out of the car, slammed the door and the window fell out.

Early this year I pulled the handbrake on and it came off in my hand leaving the cables dragging under the car. And last month I came to open the door and the handle also came off in my hand.

I've told my misses it's a clown car. That my 30 odd year old van still has it's original door handles, handbrake in place and it's original exhaust. That we should get rid before it costs us more money. She won't have it.

  6. nice little cars... O0

a friend had one last year,
parked up at home and it wouldnt turn off,
engine revved its self to death until it caught fire,

was so badly melted it needed a new engine,
probably the turbo oil seal gone and the engine burnt its own oil

its quite a common problem with them, documented on the net,

good luck with yours they can tall be bad uns....

fiat = fix it again toni ...

  8. Exactly what jinkjude said. We had a brand new fiat 500 diesel sport for our pizza delivery car. It's a city car , but needs long runs? How does that work?
Ours needed oil change every 1800 miles, also from the light coming on until the oil change, it only did 22 mpg. So if the light came on on a Friday night, we had a whole weekends driving to be done at 22mpg. Crazy!

We decided to get a 1.4 petrol sport instead and that's been great, it does 36 mpg and its fast. Our driver loves it.

  10. Thanks fellas, even taking all that into account, it's gotta be better than the evil twisted psychotic A3. I'll see how it goes, told the other half when I got in last night and she was quite excited by the prospect....... This is in itself a major incident. I'll keep an eye on the oil, the door handles and the window issues. If it decides to set fire to itself ill call the fire fighters. I'll be doing a bit of dual carriageway driving in it so hopefully well get along fine.

  11. I HATE hate hate Austin Montegos!!!!!!! in fact ,i loathe them !!!!

  15. the windows and handles drop of because its a fiat..... :))

we hired a fiat when working in italy,
the interior mirror fell of as we drove away fom the garage,
and the drivers window would not move .... it had done .....14 miles.... ;D

  16. well, I was a bit concerned about these tales of woe until I remebered that after spending 32k on my new Z4 in 2007, the door trim came off in my hand on day two, the passenger side window regulator failed twice, the boot and passenger footwell regularly filled up with rainwater, the polished alloys tarnished and then cracked. Eventually the roof motor failed and the cruise control started to operate itself when it felt like it. Bought a new TT quattro in 2009 and the driveshafts failed twice in the first 12 Months and it ate its way through a grands worth of tyres every year. Overall, Im looking forward to getting the 500 and see what drops off. :)

  17. Get ready then. You won't be disappointed. The fiat also owes about 3k in tyres in 4 years. Plus exhaust problems, plus wiring loom...

    Looks nice mind.

  18. they dont build em like they used too...
