  1. Hi All,

Eventually managed to figure out how to post images so here goes. The start of the interior resto of my '73 Kombi. It must have had a busy life in Oz, the floor had a nice covering of concrete and looks like a cement mixer has been rattling about in the back during trips in the outback! Enjoy...

  2. Floor was in good shape once the crap was wire brushed off. Think I took a few years off my life though, no dust mask!

Then the Metal Ready treatment from Frost
    [IMG]

Then a nice coat of POR15
    [IMG]

  3. Cab Floor had some nice additional drainage / ventilation too

  4. Glass out, dash out and masked up, ready for a lick of paint...

    Then the doors,

Dash repainted with a tin of satin black and fitted after about two days of screaming at the nightmare that was the wiring loom!!

Headliner next... this should be interesting....

  5. Thats looking realy tidy dude

  6. First the Thermawrap stuff using high temp spray adhesive

The the first of many trial fits...

Top Tip - Buy a box of 100 bulldog clips as you will need plenty!

Trial fit, cut and trial fit the bows but don't bend them too much at the ends as they won't fit through the loop in the lining. I left a small gap between the roof and the bow for the fabric to move.

Take your time and fit as many times as it takes for you to be happy that it looks right. Another top tip is clean the inside of your bus and cover it. The headliner will find every last bit of dust, dirt grease (yes, from the upper sliding door channel) and make you cry...

    Then start with the clips
    [IMG]

  7. Then add more clips, stretching as you go. I worked front to back then sides, middle out to both front and back equally. I unclipped it all, took out the headliner and shortened the bows four times until I was happy with the fit !

Then, once your happy, take two or three clips off at a time and glue the fabric and the frame and clip it back keeping the tension same as the rest. It should look something like this

Hoping the few wrinkles will come out with a heat gun, unless anyone has any other tips??

Next gripping installment is carpet then seat covers. Not done them before either so any advice from other members is more than welcome!

Update: Headliner was bought from Chris at Wonderland Classics. Check out their site at www.wonderlandclassics.com or give him a call on 020 8854 4168, he's a great guy and will happily talk you through it as he did with me.

  8. Good work

  9. Looks good, I've got to tackle my headlining next week hopefully

    K+

  10. bulldog clips are an awesome tool for doing headliners!!

some tidy work you've got going on there :)

  11. Thanks for the karma Major Hangover, what are you fitting it to? Kombi or Microbus?

  12. I've got a microbus with a steel sunroof, so less bows than a full tintop but a big hole to cut out in the middle.

  13. Looks like a great job on the headlining there Mark, well done! Want to do ours ;) Only joking, fortunately we have a birch orginal one, obviously even Westfalia must have thought them too hard.

  14. that is the nuts fella shame you dont live closer to me I would ask you to do -Gladys - me and fabric = no no with metal no problem
    Great job

  15. Major Hangover - Good luck with that!

Thanks for all the comments guys, any questions, just ask

    Cheers,
    MarK

  16. That is well impressive matey - you are much braver than me, well done and now set up a business too......JIM.

  17. If only, i'm the kind of guy that helps mates for free... never make a business man. If anyone does need a hand and are local-ish, contact me. I'm no expert as this was my first time and took me about 10 hours but in the land of the blind...

  18. I may take you up on that and bring Gladys over on a trailer

  19. If I had the space you'd be welcome! If your good with metal, then you could do this yourself. It really isn't that hard, just need a bit of patience and a few pointers

  20. Really fab work there, looks lovely, great talent you've got. Where did you buy the Thermawrap stuff from and the spray adhesive from?
