Hi all, looking for tips on insulation, starting to put "Bertie" back together now and wondered whats best to put back behind the panels and cab ceiling etc, all ideas welcome. Thanks Lee
this will do the trick http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOFT-INSULATION-11-4sqm-DOUBLE-FOIL-AIR-BUBBLE-4mm-/310291440721?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item483ecfa451 and you'll need the joining tape http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/aluminium-silver-foil-insulation-tape-Self-Adhesive-4in-/120753189558?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1c1d7372b6 i used evo-stik spray to stick the insulation on , a few quid from screwfix
You can buy sheeps wool loft insulation its a little more expensive than rockwool or bubble foil But it outperforms modern insulation and is treated agains moisture and its fire retardent Normal sheeps wool is resistant to moisture anyway due to the lanolin content its how sheep keep warm and dry outdoors Rockwool does hold moisture thats why hydrophonic gardeners us it as a soil substitute
Rockwool is best its what Westfalia use, lots of people say it will hold moisture but thats not true, my very rusty 1976 Bay had rust but none near the insulation areas.
I have my own fire protection and insulation contracting business and can tell you that Rockwool retains moisture. We use phenolics and polyurethanes now. However, foil faced Rockwool products is a cheap effective option.
From a performance perspective polyurethanes are the best 0.023 - 0.025W/m.K, phenolics can co all crumbly 0.04W/m.K. Sheeps wool is excellent as long as its kept dry. rockwool is cheap and performs fairly well too 0.035W/m.K. The numbers quoted are the conductivity and the lowest is the better.
Thanks guys, did think about shoe horning a few local lambs behind the panels but now not so sure!!!.............so, foil faced rockwool, is that the stuff I'd put down in my attic, the red outer covering stuff???
Yes basically a foil encapsulated version of your loft insulation. Any decent builders merchant should be able to help and supply.
