indicators not canceling.

  1. Will my bus fail its mot because the indicators don't cancel as I've fitted a different steering wheel?

I wouldnt have thought so, as long as the bulbs light up as they should..ours never have cancelled correctly although they do sometimes!

I removed the system that cancels on my Peugeots because they used to cancel to quickly. It's not an MOT failure.

  4. Oh, are the indicators supposed to cancel on Bays then?
    Cheers

  5. Thanks you lot, was told it was a grey area and depended on the tester. Cheers. ;)

    It wont fail for that.

Mine have never self cancelled but I understand they should do.

  11. Seems to me that most don't self-cancel but I recall when I had my wheel off last that there was the semblance of a gizmo that should enable self-cancelling. Anyone know what the complete system looks like, and can you get the bits to refurbish 'em - don't re-call seeing them in JK or VWH catalogues :( :(

You can buy new wiper stalks for the later late bays. It has the clip in it that self cancels.

There is a sticky out slot on a normal steering wheel that clicks off the indicators when you turn.

  13. Thanks, I'll see what's said at the mot station. :)

  14. mine never self cancel and have yet to have a fail of mot for it. now the horn is another matter...

  15. Yes, they are made to self cancel, but the mechanism always craps out.
I suspect the Germans must have sourced this part out to the English to save money or something. ;)
My bus has only 76,000 miles on it and my right signal will usually still cancel while my left one rarely will. I'm sure it will soon stop working entirely.
Aftermarket signal levers are widely available if you want to correct this situation, but all the ones I've seen look nothing like the original. They look like something out of 1985 Ford pick-up or something. Umm,... ewe.

  16. they usually stop canceling because the whole assembly with indicators and wipers works it way down the steering shaft a bit enough so it misses the canceling tabs , give it a wiggle and pull it up

  17. ^this. If the gap between the steering wheel and shroud is more than 2-3mm, cancelling won't work. Loosen the steering lock clamp and move things up again, and miraculously they'll self cancell again.

  19. I fixed my non-cancelling indicators by removing the steering wheel and fixing one of the hooks on the mechanism which had broken.

You will see 2 sliding plastic hooks which are attached together by a large wiggly flat sprung wire - one of mine had broke and so I screwed a small self-tapping screw and reattached the spring.

Let me know if you need pics and ill do what I can!
