  1. hi everyone
I have just replaced my dashboard lights with led bulbs and adaptors the only problem i have is that the indicator light stays on all the time but flashes when indicating
am i missing the trick somewhere. It has 2 wires one to earth and one to live ?????
    Thanks
    John

  2. Try turning the LED bulb around in the holder ;)

  3. Thanks i will try that and let you no

  4. Most LED bulbs are polarised - unlike incandescent jobs, they have to go in one way round or weird stuff happens.

PS Don't put an LED bulb in your alternator light.

  5. Well just tried turning the bulb round and it’s still doing it

Some flashers do not like LED bulbs in the dashboard indicator as they dont act like filament bulbs.. they glow with tiny current flows and filament bulbs dont. And at low voltages they effectively go open circuit as they only start conducting at 4 volts. Because they are lower power than a filament bulb they have a higher resistance too.

My flasher unit buzzes all the time the ignition is on if I fit an LED in the dashboard indicator.

Try putting a 100 ohm 1 watt resistor across the LED bulb holder or just put the filament bulb back in.

  7. I tried this and had the same problem. You could gather a dedicated LED relay to do the job, but you will have to change you indicators to LED as well.

Dashboard lights are bright enough - I tried LED, my bus blew them all in a few days so I went back to bulbs.

  8. That is odd. Looking at the wiring diag, potentially if you've got an LED bulb that works either way round (I have seen them), that could cause the flasher relay to go a bit nuts as it would supply just a small current constantly, but not enough to make flasher relay operate properly. Try connecting it to a 12V supply, see if it operates either way round. I swapped my bulb for a basic automotive LED, and it worked just fine.

They shouldn't do that. Were they intended for automotive use?

  9. Put LEDs in my dash to brighten it up. Went back to do more bits and indicator flashers not functioning properly. Quick search on here and I found your solution! Many thanks since I’m totally new to electrics I thought I’d somehow totally bollyolloxed the whole thing up

  10. I was warned about not putting an LED in the alternator light at Techenders...totally forgot and went ahead and put one in there good job I stumbled upon this to remind me.
The LEDs seem pretty rubbish actually - can’t use them anywhere except the Dials without them inviting gremlins in; and the red ones I’ve used aren’t bright lol look cool though
Red Light District gremlins must be more accommodating

  11. Maybe try and find some better ones? They vary in quality. I changed all mine out for the appropriately coloured LEDs, and it's a great improvement.

  12. That’s cool
I got the set on eBay (£12) from a guy who puts packages together for specific vehicles...so I assumed they’d just plug in and be dandy.
I’ve read various solutions, like they need to go in a specific way or some sort of dedicated LED relay thing. Really all I was after is a brighter dash display.

  13. Oh great ...
I`m ever so excited about putting an LED indicator light into the B post , will it end well ??
