I looked in featured rides for the first time today. I think the site has evolved and now most people put their vans into the restorations section.
Featured rides is like a little village that has had a bypass built around it. It's quaint and forms part of the history of TLB. It's not hurting anybody so it doesn't need deleting.
Trying to update it would cause unnecessary friction about who gets chosen and who does the choosing.

Leave it as it is and we can just tell the new members "Oh yeah, we used to do that in the old days".

  2. If it features in new post I will have a look ,but I don`t look at every post, in fact I do not look in any of the different sections ,just do the new post thing.....

But new members would like having a look around imo.....

btw @PIE looked at yours and enjoyed it....

  3. Seems you`ve got the wrong end of the stick there ...
I`d rather read about your struggles on the drive than someone sending it off to so-an-so`s bodyshop , someone else for the motor etc etc ....
I`m guilty of having to pay someone for any major work carried out , the simple reason being i have absolutely nowhere to work on the van since moving down to `That London` a couple of years ago . I`ve been rolling around on the drive for many years but all i have now an off road parking place now and that`s it !

Sorry you took it personally , that wasn`t the intention .
    More a pop at the `throw money at it - i want a show van` brigade .

IMO the section was needed at the time. However just reading all the comments and ideas I'm feeling that it should be deleted and replaced with a completed resto section.

So what's your general thought? What should the criteria be?

Should it be called built not bought...

And is that not elitist in itself (added that ready for the thread in 2018 lol)

Yes that is elitist in itself. That's torn it!
I was sort of suggesting I enjoyed 1973daisy's resto flashing by in 2 minutes with backing music. Some of those resto threads are epic and you'd need a whole evening to get through them. Maybe a single sticky where you have to make one of those, max 5 minutes, one post per van and a link to the resto thread for them's what want a proper look. Restotainment

  9. I like the idea of 'built not bought', but when you say 'finished' resto's - are they ever finished? ;)

  10. And what about unrestored busses / rolling restos? Personally my favourites are usually a work in progress...preferably with an MOT.

    That's the resto section!

  12. Not exactly, doesn't leave room for timewarp/original busses (or just those that are used and maintained).

I paid someone to weld and paint mine, then paid for an engine. I'll no doubt keep spending on it.
Can we have a "bought not built" section too please?

  14. Why don't the mods just put all these threads into show us your ride and then they'll just fit in in date sequence so the early members buses will still be available for all to see. I've seen @PIE bus up close and Dave has done a super job on it .

What a storm in a teacup.

    Finished resto?

No such thing, people always have plans to do more stuff in the future.

    Built not bought?

More unnecessary categorisation and completely impossible to define. I did the whole of my interior myself but I paid a bloke to weld the van for me. Someone else spends years under their van welding it but buys an interior.

and therefore it forms part of the history of the site.

Again, in my opinion it is completely unnecessary. One person in the last three years has had an issue with that thread, no one else is bothered but now everyone seems to be tying themselves in knots worrying about something which doesn't need worrying about.

If you like I'll start the annual thread wondering why hardly any women come on here or maybe the bi-annual 'Why is TLB so dead recently?'

You're right, what we need is a cleaner to pop in once a week to tidy the place up and maybe do a bit of ironing.

It's not a storm in a teacup, more we have all been drinking Nescafé and someone has suggested kenco.

If it's changed it will be for the best intentions not just because one person has suggested it.

Agreeing in criteria is the hard bit like any 'elite clique' section

  19. betty likes ironing , i like cleaning (but not parp ):)

  20. :confused:who did that :D
