I'm back, with a MOT fail

  1. I just had my sills replaced using schofields and the guys recommending them were bang on the fit and quality is top notch
     
  2. I like schofields they're my favourite.
     
  3. Can't fail for driveshaft on the rear... MMM not true if i remember correctly il have to read the manual LOL

    They only fail if they make up part of the steering or suspension, on a bay rears are advise
     
  5. Well all the guys at my place ( i believe) have been failing them they change the goal posts too much ....inner cv's never used to fail either , I've seen the pics of the rust though no MOT tester would pass that the ministry would have a field day

    as an MOT tester I think I'm fair and we just try to have the whole publics safety in mind ( well I do )

  7. I see it as doable really . Get a cutting disk and go at it , i had heaps more work than this . Do Two long afternoons cutting . A few weekends welding , sounds easier said than done , once you get going youll find the motivation and love your bus even more ... ,,just go for it ,!:thumbsup:

  9. Nice video .please Use safety glasses , dont forget . The weld was done at factory ? No . Anyone on that ?

    Yes that is the factory weld on the chassis rail. No worries.

    Slightly worrying that you MOT man doesn't recognise the factory chassis weld, it's a very high power electric weld, the two parts being shoved together and what you see is material forced out of the way, impossible to recreate in the workshop.

    in fairness, a mot tester up there ^ would have failed rear joints.... and self admited he wasn't up to regs, you gotta feel for some of these testers on old vehicles they aren't used to rust and stuff as much these days compared to the 80's 90's i guess.

    Even if you are up with the regs there's often interpretation leeway and of course the all encompassing tester's get out clause - the advisory. I liked the tester I used in Suffolk, he was old, had tested most of his life and rarely used advisories.

    i liked the tester i used years ago with my landy before the computer nonsense - i could ring up for one and collect it in a different car..... if he wanted you to get through emmisions he'd test a new one off the forecourt. happy days.

    That might be fine if you're on top of things but a lot of people rely on it for a yearly basic safety check and actually want a proper full test done?

    yep agree - he did only do it for people he knew looked after stuff - or were selling dodgy cars - or errrrrrrrm lol

  20. being an MOT tester is a nightmare sometimes. The testers manual although does seem to allow for some interpretation is grammatically correct and must be read in order referring to the notes and sub headings. Unfortunately what some testers do (mainly due to a lack of self confidence) is find a fail reason and make it fit to circumstances. The're not normally bad or malicious just not reading the book properly or unsure. Unfortunately there's good and bad in all of us. Find a good tester and hold onto them.
    Good luck, Remember don't do the driveshaft gaiter until after the MOT is done tell him he is wrong lol
