I never wanted to do more bodywork. I wanted to be A LUMBERJACK! Leaping from tree to tree, as they float down the mighty rivers of British Columbia... Seriously, i'm sick and tired of finding rot and filler in my westy. I wanted to spend my money lowering it, a more powerful engine, adding some nice accessories, maybe a repaint but no it had to be attacked by the metal moths again.
Stop your moaning thats a quick fix with this product http://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-324102/everbuild-fix-and-fill-aerosol-expanding-foam-500ml.html
On mine, I was crouching on my haunches checking out an area of rust at the top of the arch, and my knee hit the left part of the step - which then promptly fell off. Transpired that the outer step was around 1kg of filler, with threads of rust to add reinforcement and rigidity. Think of it this way - all that filler - and the moisture it traps represents quite a weight. Replacing it will save you money in the looooooooooooooong run. Feel for you buddy - its a mare!
That fell off after i slammed the new door with new rubber. This is what happened when i wire brushed a small rust hole in the top of the arch a few years back: I get frightend even going near it with objects more solid than the bodywork. A sponge for instance. ;D
