I know it's been covered, but I'm very keen on doing a Scooby conversion. Is that better?

  1. Welcome to the club... Think it's about time for a Scooby section of TLB! Chap up the road stopped me yesterday and said"I've meaning to ask you each time I see your van.... What have you got in the back of that? When I opened the engine lid he nearly p"""""""d his pants!

  2. I dont want a scooby section!:(

  3. I would like to ask a serious question on these , those that have them now , do you work on them yourself?? are they easy to work on?? can you get parts cheaply?? have you had brakes etc uprated to deal with extra power , and is it right to drive around with a VW badge on the front ?? This all said i do like the look and sound of them.

  4. How about an alternative engine section - then everyone can join in? :)

  6. just what i thought

  7. I'm guessing not everyone is a fan of alternative engined VW's.. Everyone to their own. ( This is one reason why an alternative engine section of the forum would be nice.. If your interested you would visit that section, if your not, you wouldn't bother)
I'm in the process of converting my bus to Subaru power.. I'm doing all the work to it myself..So far it's been easy to work with and the parts are readily available and reasonably cheap..I sold my old VW engine/carbs for a lot more than I paid for a full service history Subaru engine/donor car..
As for uprating brakes, I don't see what difference doing 60mph with a 45bhp VW engine is to doing 60mph with a 120bhp Subaru engine. Your still doing 60mph and as long as it doesn't weigh more the braking distance will be the same?
And, if I wish I can tow a trailer and won't have to get out and push it up a hill.
As for the VW badge on the front, I haven't got one (Yet)

Before I did my conversion I think I had so many repro panels on it non original seats non original wheels it wasn't the original factory paint. It has a non original camper conversion so some might say it shouldn't of had a vw badge on it then.

I enjoy my van to go away camping and to and from work, it serves my needs so it keeps me happy. No different to having a air cooled engine made from American aftermarket part

I would like a alternative engine section though

  11. I have never been a huge fan of stuffing different engines into vehicles they weren't designed for, but, the Subaru engine is a very natural fit, it even sounds similar, albeit better. I'm heading into unknown waters......

Had VW kept with the flat four, I'm thinking it wouldn't be too different to Subaru's interpretation.... And who's to say Subaru didn't take a VW engine and just improve it??

Mines so far from standard that im just going with the flow, Ford v6, its a Devon but the interior i managed to get is a Westy, the wheels are from a Merc i think and i have a nice set of chrome prototype bay bumpers staring at me, im very tempted to use them, i like chrome:), think mine is a Bitsa now not a VW

    What's your problem?
I genuinely had no idea what you were trying to say
I think I've deciphered it now. My post wasn't aimed at you. I was just stating that "right or wrong" I love it. If anyone thinks it shouldn't have a VW badge on the front they should consider getting a life.
Try writing in English, it would have saved any confusion.

  20. do one , i dont have ta take you crap either
