I know it's been covered, but I'm very keen on doing a Scooby conversion. Is that better?

  5. Feel free mate, this is a really informative thread, I'm grateful for any input AND encouragement of input!! :)

Just to say, thanks for all the info - I'm seriously thinking about this.

  6. Mods, I wonder if it's time to create a forum within Mech and Tech for engine conversions so we can chuck all this info into one area. There have been a number of similar threads recently so it's clearly becoming a popular topic.

Can we have air-cooled upgrades in there too please or apart from Keith's it'll be a Scooby procession.

  9. That's a top idea, this has been a very useful thread - I'd also like to see VW TDi conversion, cos that's another very appealing option.

  10. Hi, interesting conversation. I posted on here last year ref Scooby conversions, mine's all done and running sweet. One of the main issues I had at the time was I was running a Cosworth Rad in the back end behind the engine(2.2)! After talking with Perry at Fellows I went with their under rad system... Cool as... And no more heating issues. The box is a six rib by the way. Perhaps in hindsight the only the thing I wouldn't have done is fit the EMPI stick... Just doesn't like finding second on the change down... Bit like our 71 Beetle, soup bowl gear stick!!! How many Scooby powered Bays are there out there now?

  11. They should offer it with the boxer diesel, nice motor,i drive a 2010 legacy wagon 6 speed, fantastic mileage and really sweet motor!

  12. Talking to gentleman at a campsite in France he asked mpg I was getting when I said 20,
He said that's good he had a3litre subaroo towing a caravan and bikes on top he was getting12 mpg made me feel better,
    Steve,

  13. im very interested in doing one of these conversions, do people have any pictures of the engine mounts etc?

  15. Im going to get a housebrick tomorrow and see how my clearance compares

  16. I don't think a boxer diesel will be in my budget yet.... :(

  17. Me too. I think my exhaust is lower than the sump though.

I'm on boggo wheels and tyres, standard height (though interiors is out) so might be a bit higher than usual.

  19. Here's mine, same as Moons:

Here's my clearance - looks roughly just over 1 housebrick ;)
